Prisons for children?
In Texas? What about the other states? Are these federal prisons? What the Hell is the government doing this for? Let's find out how many of these atrocities exist - this is 1984 at its worse! Want to hear more about these children and their families. Where to send donations to help in their legal support?

This is not new
Most Americans have simply not been paying attention to what has been happening in this country for a very long time. We hear on mainstream media that America is a democracy, that it stands for human rights, that it is a model for proper behavior for the whole world. Maybe we should be grateful to Bush for being so blatantly horrific that most people can no longer ignore it.
Of course, it's appallihg that America treats chldren this way - but it is also appalling how it routinely treats children. This once rich country (it's all paper now and falling fast) has been allowing child poverty to grow since before LBJ started the "War on Poverty" which was as unsuccessful as the war in Vietnam, and things have continued to go downhill. the education system has been allowed to disintegrate (the number of special ed children is growing dramatically, but the feds have never come close to funding the 40% funding of this mandated program it promised, so school districts have to fund them out of the general fund.) In recent decades, a growing number of children have no health care. In the name of globalization, the govt. has allowed hundreds of thousands of jobs to be sent overseas, leaving families struggling harder and harder here, while many jobs are taken over by child labor for pennies over there.
So what's surprising? In a country where money is the only measure of value and people will do anything ito increase profits, wh cares about people, particularly the vulnerable ones who can't stand up for themselves.
Outrage isn't enough - get this in al the newspapers, bring it before Congress, etc. But don't hold your breath - we can each only do what we can do, but collectively we sure need to try harder.

Show Some Compassion
The imprisonment of children is a horrific commentary on the debased state of our country. Where are the self-righteous Christians who claim that they are pro-life? If this situation isn't an instance of a disregard for life, what is?

re: Sorry if you misinterpreted my responses to all of the anonymous trolls who seemed fixated on "illegal."
I guess a troll is someone who disagrees with the brilliance that is YOU! I'm old school internet, I guess - we called a troll a poster who purposely smeared others, disrupted - ECT., but for you a troll is someone who dares to question YOU!
The folks in these prisons are illegal - that they have dragged their children into the shit with them makes them illegal scumbags.
Keep lying by suggesting that these mostly Mexican, South and Central Americans are coming to the USA for freedom and amnesty and not a fair wage.
That will rouse the people!

The ripple effect of hatred
The children that are in prison in Taylor are like drops of water falling into a large body of water. They may seem insignificant at first, but they soon create ripples in the water that slowly grow and soon become large waves. Each child's terrible experience in T. Don Hutto has a ripple effect...families, friends and nations will soon learn of what was done to these children...and we will one day face the torrent of hatred...

what does Hutto have to hide from the UN?
Again and again, our administration sees itself as above inspection. We shirk airing our "evidence" of WMDs in an international theater, skirt the court of public opinion re: Abu Ghraib and now we deny Mr. Bustamente access to this downright inhumane detention facilities? American, have we no shame? There are children in there. Additionally, their parents' biggest crime was coming into our country to give their children a better life and they are imprisoned along with their kids Our trade policies have worsened the status of workers in Central America and Mexico and then we blame these families for coming here. We must ask our legislators to press for answers to why Hutto will not open its doors to the UN.

Dear Anonymous...
Sorry if you have a problem with people who try to correct your errors and incorrect statements.
No need to call names though. Please be civil.
It is your very lack of civility and insistence on posting disinformation when it would be so easy for you to learn the truth that motivated me to call you a troll in earlier posts.
Although for all I know you could be several anonymous, poorly informed posters and therefore, trolls plural.
FYI, once again, the people in Hutto are not illegal.
Also, none are from MEXICO -- not that it should matter. Even the simplest background in immigration policy would have prevented you from saying any are Mexican.
Additionally, the folks incarcerated in Hutto are fleeing torture, rape and death threats in their countries of origin. They are not "scumbags."
So -- TROLL(S?) -- Get over the whole demonizing of illegals kick you seem to be on... even if it is trendy right now to hate them.
Go and educate yourself on the ISSUE and the FACTS.
You only make yourself look bad otherwise.
A quick google of asylum in the USA should help to alleviate your ignorance nicely.
