  • re: Women seem to be as much at risk of injury and death as men in this war, their lower numbers as a proportion of the military have hidden this truth.

    Women represent 8 percent of the military in Iraq. As of 3/20/07 82 women have been killed, 470 servicewomen have been injured. As to the men, 3269 have been killed and 26,188 have been wounded.

    That's 2.5 percent as many deaths and under 2 percent as many injuries. If you get different calculations, do tell, but I see far less a risk to women - even based on their relatively low numbers.
