Abstinence-only Bush appointee resigns

Eric Keroack will no longer oversee family planning funds.

The letters thread is now closed.

That might work...

It's possible that including "fist pumping action" in abstinence only education might actually give it some small chance of success.

Seriously though, having this guy gone is nothing but good. What can you tell us about the probable replacement? How much better/worse?

*pumping fist*

Halle-freakin-lujah!

Another one bites the dust.

Great news, but...

It's great the Keroack is out; however, according to the Planned Parenthood post, Kappeler is only an interim replacement (emphasis mine):

Ms. Kappeler, his former Deputy has indeed been named as an interim replacement

This is a presidential appointment post, meaning, Bush will get to decide who will ultimately replace Keroack. Restrained celebration is in order until the final replacement is announced.

I also find it highly unlikely that Ms. Kappeler will be much different from the current administration's views on reproductive health. She might surprise me, but deputy positions are typically filled by like-minded individuals.

So long, Eric Keroack!

Agreed, Disgruntled Ladye. We don't really know anything about Evelyn Kappeler. A Google search brought up surprisingly little about her (aside from her working at the Office of Population Affairs).

Definitely will have to wait and see. On the upside, if she were a total loony, there'd probably be multiple quotes of her saying something loony, and I didn't find any.

Woo hoo! Oh, how I have lowered my expectations for Bush appointees...

What is mind-boggling

...is that they do so little to vet or screen their nominees that they didn't know, or just didn't care, that he didn't even have a private practice as he claimed, just the phone number for a crisis-pregnancy center that rang in his home... according to what I just read.

I guess it must be awfully time-consuming to administer those Bush-loyalty oaths after you first test every nominee on his or her ideology... leaving no time at all to make sure that the nominee has even a facade of qualifications.

Of course, that does make it so much easier to expose these creeps, so I shouldn't complain. Never mind...

Abstinence Only Tripe

Yes! Yes, Timmy there is a God and He appears to be quite fair.

I have a friend who has psent the last twenty-eight years of her life working at "schools" for pregnant girls to ensure that they are educated and can eventually graduate from high school. I had the

opportunity to speak with her briefly last week and she had some interesting observations: 1.) The number of 7th and 8th grade pregant girls are increasing in the Los Angeles areas. 2.) "Abstinenece only" as a concept never worked and has only complicated and increased the number of pregnancies in young girls. 3.) The majority of these young girls will never go on to college. and 4.) Most of the girls who return to the program do so only to be able to qualify for their welfare benefits.

What more do we need to realize that we have a growing underclass that will almost always be unemployable?
