when he was making his case as head of the DNC talking about women in leadership positions at all levels of the Party. I am SO glad they are following through. I'll be crying into my champagne - out of relief, and because things are still very, very scary for girls and women and anyone else who is not 100% enfranchised by the Good Ol' Boys.
I just saw Congresswoman Pelosi interviewed by Wolfe Blitzer: she's very good, and as this was my first real look at the next speaker, I believe we're in good hands - the congresswoman is tough and exudes a surety that can face down the big boys. She seems very smart and, considering her position and the ugliness of the election, very graceful towards the Republicans and the president - a perfect touch to help heal this country of ours. She implied a tough oversight of the war - the money spent, the intelligence that lead us there, including the use of the subpoena if the Executive balks, and she seems focused on righting the wrongs of this administration - or, at the least, putting a leash on Republican excess - I haven't enjoyed watching the news this much in years!
Good luck, Ms. Speaker Elect!
Also, another first for women leaders - Alaska has its first woman governor, Sarah Palin. Sadly, she is a republican, but that doesn't change the fact that she represents a historic first for Alaska.
