do it do it do it

please please please please please please oh please please please let this happen. put the grown-ups back in charge and let them show education funding improves the economy, not tax cuts, constituents guide good legislation, not lobbyists, and on and on. let them do it quickly, and loudly, and proudly. no more of this hand-wringing, cringing sycophantic nonsense, please.

we can do this right? ya'll aren't just yanking my chain again? there's hope for democracy yet?

Hate to put a damper on this, but

Last I checked these bills would have to be passed by both houses of congress and then signed into law by the President. If Bush vetoes these (anyone think he'll sign a repeal of his tax cuts?) a 2/3 majority of both houses of congress would be required to override the veto. I have seen no survey that indicates the Democrats will have anywhere near a 2/3 majority. Sorry, kids, but it's inertia for 2 years until we can take back the White House.

Subpoena Power

The majority party has subpoena power, the minority party has none. If Republicans retain the majority, we'll never get anyone to testify under oath about anything, certainly not the higher ups who appear to have violated their oaths to uphold the Constitution.

One thing we do know about a Democratic majority: it wouldn't waste tens of millions of tax dollars and uncounted hours on dogging and impeaching someone based on private behavior that has nothing to do with performing one's elected duries.

Education spending?

"put the grown-ups back in charge and let them show education funding improves the economy, not tax cuts"

As long as the teachers' unions don't get in the way I guess. No president in history has come even close to increasing school funding as much as Bush. But the unions don't care for that word "accountability".

Meanwhile, the post-tax cut economy is humming along with the Dow breaking it's all time high just this past week while unemployment remains low.

Too Wonderful!!

Draining the swamp is good. Now why don't the Democrats hire someone to out-Rove Karl Rove?

Detainee Act?

Re: Nancy Pelosi's first hundred hours as Speaker: how about "schedule immediate floor vote to repeal detainee act"?

Monday, October 9, 2006 08:00 AM

Glad to hear it

Is her "100 hour" plan reasonable or realistic? Maybe not, but at least its out there. Its about time someone in the DNC grew some balls, even if it's Nancy Pelosi. Seriously, the biggest problem that the Democrats have now is not taking a stand - even refusing to take stands that are polling well, such as speaking out more strongly against the Iraq war now, no matter what happened in the past. The Republican's, at least, claim to stand for something.

That doesn't seem to have any correlation with their actions, of course, but at least they're willing to claim it... one up on the DNC so far.

How jolly!

Another article about how the "women's vote" is going to put Democrats back in control and politics in America will be dramatically transformed. It's never happened. Those pesky women seem to have minds of their own and they always end up voting differently from the way the Nancy Pelosis of the world think they should.

And even if the Dems do get a majority in the House, who wants to bet on Pelosi's legislation passing? My guess is there would never be a vote. Actually my guess is that there would never even be bills to vote on. I mean honestly, does anyone truly believe the Dems are going to go to bat for reducing lobbyists' influence on Capitol Hill?

But let's save this article so, if the Dems do take the House, we can see what they really do on these issues.
