In my opinion
Anyone who doesn't vote sucks ass and I freely tell anyone who doesn't vote that they suck ass. Why does the government need to make you feel included, you are included by virtue of being a citizen of the united states. So what if mommy issues or health care or retirement benifits aren't relavent to you now, one day you'll probably be a parent, you're probably gonna get sick at some point and one day you will be old. So better care about that stuff now, becuase if you don't care and expect that it can be fixed later when you do care.

I'm A Real American Too
I've voted in every election since I was 18, and I don't intend to stop now. But it does get tiring, voting for candidates who repeatedly ignore issues that affect the single and childless. (I don't expect to be pandered to, but every now and then, couldn't I be mentioned?) But what drives me absolutely crazy are candidates who imply that the only important or worthy voters are people who have children. Sadly, this affects Democrats as well as Republicans (including one Democratic candidate who lost my vote forevermore because of his repeated referrals to those with children as "the only real Americans"). I vote for generous school budgets and child care tax breaks because I think it's good for the country as a whole and it's the right thing to do. But I think I'm still a "real American" and my issues are important too, even if I won't ever reproduce.
It's kind of insulting for a candidate to tell me on one hand, "I want your vote" and then turn around and say "you're not a real American".

What is it with people?
In 25 years of voting, I've missed TWO elections - in one instance I was a minute late, in another I had a horrible flu.
NO politician has ever pandered to me in any way, I don't feel like I fit into any of their favorite demographics, sometimes I think most voters are just plain stupid.
So I'm torn. Shouldn't EVERYONE vote? Or is it a really a good idea to have even more, even stupider voters participating; people who practically need to be lead to the polls with candy, for fuck's sake?
Get out the vote??
People who can't be bothered should just GET OUT, period.

Single woman talking
I'm really pretty sick of the labelling that goes on when it comes to voting groups. We're all human beings, each with our own personal concerns, but that doesn't mean we don't care about others. Society affects us all. I don't have children, but I sure want all kids to be well educated and have the chance to further their education after high school. It only makes good sense to have an educated population.

Education and children's welfare were always important to me...
...but when I was single, I also cared a great deal about issues like the economy's number of entry-level jobs with a good forward motion built into them, health care, and the fact that everyone seemed to be ignoring the fact that Social Security would crash.
Not that I don't care about these things now. But they're not what politicians talk about, because politicians are pandering to people like me and people like my parents... middle-aged people, and mothers and fathers. They really don't address the concerns of the single or childless very much.

NYT had an article about this
About how single women are angry and want to vote. most idiotically, it then proceeded to ask whether single women would carry their "sassy single attitude" when (not if) they get married.
So, even in talking about single women and their opinions, NYT managed to talk down to the women, as in "ain't it cute! she wants to VOTE!"
-
Le
NYT is not trying to talk down to women, they are merely reporting how women historically vote for candidates based on looks. This is all well documented behavior by women. Begin taking responsibility for your and your sisters' dumb behavior.
-
I mean, really, brightstar, are you retarded?
my post had nothing to do with the substantive issue of how women vote, single or married. my post had to do with the NYT thinking it's appropriate to write, in an article about how single women vote more to the left and are more angry about certain issues, that single women have "sassy single attitude." WTF is that?! Is that worthy of the paper of record? "Sassy"? So, a woman who wants to vote, is informed, and outraged is "sassy"? That's bullshit. A man who is informed, outraged, and voting isn't called "sassy" or anything else liek that -- he's taken seriously. Not being called diminuitive names.
God damn boy! You need to learn to read.

SASSY
to me is a strong word implying positive attributes like being up on things, sharp, free thinking, and outspoken.
I am sorry you women are so sick in the head that you have to turn every positive thing into a negative.
no wonder most guys ignore you women. (yeah, I am one of the DUMB ones for actually caring what women say or think)
