Kick, scream, poke his eyes out: Do whatever it takes

Despite Kenya's soaring rape rates, some locals are skeptical of self-defense classes.

Another tactic

I have heard that one way to deter a rapist is to vomit on yourself or piss or shit your pants. One of my professors told us a story about how a man pulled her into his car, but when she told him she was gong to throw up he pushed her out and drove away.

Bad idea

That turns some perverts on, actually, knowing that you're scared enough to piss yourself.

In my case...

The gun was enough to make me do what they wanted.

should this advice be followed in cases of so called "date rape" or "spousal rape"

just wondering.

Tactics

I knew a woman who told her rapist that she had AIDS. It stopped him.

I, for one, had a knife held to my throat and then was blindfolded. I didn't fight. But for probably 10 years after (it's been 20 years now) I had such anger inside about the attack that I knew I'd fight tooth & nail if it ever happened again.

The important thing to remember is to not make a woman feel that she should have done one thing or another (fight or give in). No one tactic works in all situations. The important thing is to survive and get help to recover.

Of course they should fight

If you are a man and someone comes up to you and starts punching you in the face, do you just lay there and take it? No, that man has every legal and moral right to block the attackers punches and beat the shit out of the person attacking him. Recently my brother was followed by a strange man late at night and this man tried to pin him to a wall and rip off his pants, my brother beat the ever loving shit out of this guy and left him for dead. He was very afraid but went to the police anyway, the police did not reprimand him for beating his attacker, they went to the area to hopefully find the perp's body. The perp was not there, but the blood was, apparently my brother did not beat him to death, and my brother did not have to do anything more than make a statement and the police saw it as self defense. When the Japanese attacked our shores, we responded in violence, we did not sit there and hope the Japanese wouldn't do anything worse.

The same should be said of rape, rape is violence, any human being has the moral right and legal agency to do whatever violence necessary to defend themselves against violence. Yes, a gun or knife is a pretty effective means of subduing a victim and that may be a situation for which there is no defense, I'm sure this self defense teacher tells you what to do if weapons are involved.

Recently I read an article regarding rape, convicted rapists were asked how they chose their victims and if anything ever made them stop trying to attack someone. They mostly responded that any woman who was willing to fight them off was not worth the effort, very few of them actually used weapons to subdue a woman.

Also, as someone who has always firmly believed that men have no right to fuck me without my permission, I have fended off 2 date rapists with violence. My opinion from my own small experiences is that date rapists do not think they are trying to rape you, they just think you don't really mean no, well let me tell you, putting your hand around their throat and choking them, really makes them grasp no means no.

Anyone who tells a woman she does not have the right to defend her body against violence with violence simply because that violence is sex is a smuck.

I've been beaten up, its not worse than intimate violation. My attemped rapes made me feel stupid and ashamed even though I was not actually violated and those nights still haunt me from time to time. The fist fights I got into with other girls, those events are rarely recalled and do not make me feel sick to my stomach.

Will a girl taught self defense always win, no she won't, but at least she won't feel like there was something she did wrong when she tried her best to protect her body and self defense will give her power over her own body, she will feel she has a right to defend her person instead of accepting that this is what happens to women in society. No one should ever tell a woman that she has no right to defend her body and her mind from violations and she should not defend herself because the guy might get mad and hurt her worse, well folks there ain't much worse than having your pussy ripped, bloody, sore, and you get HIV and possibly pregnant, all along with horrible memories.

One of the things that made me happiest about Buffy the Vampire Slayer was I was reading many posts from girls who had saved themselves from being raped or abusive relationships because they thought, what would Buffy do and defended themselves. They admitted that they never thought they had the right to defend themselves because all their lives they had been told not to fight and violence is wrong, I'm glad Buffy's slaying made them rethink that posistion.

History has ample examples for men to follow regarding defending their home, bodies and property, it's about time women were shown they have the same rights too.

Curious about the statistic

Is the article implying that because women learned self defense that more men turned into rapists or started to rape more women? That does nothing to prove causation, only correlation.

Is it possible because women were being taught self defense from rape, being told that men have no right to rape them, that they became more confident in making an accusastion of rape instead of internalizing the shame?

Oh and I love the male's doctor attitude, a woman can't always win against a man so why should she even try. Oh and why shouldn't she be able to use self defense against her father or uncle or brother or cousin?

Fight back, what have you got to lose?

In a country where so many rapists have AIDS, it may be just as much getting yourself killed if you passively let them rape you.
