Mind the wage gap

A new study finds a way to narrow it: Hire women in senior management positions.

this seems like the sort of story the broadsheet hecklers have been asking for

No celebrities. No Details magazine. No pigs in heels. So are you guys happy now? Where are all the "good story, RT" posts?

RT

Ms. Traister, stop making anonymous postings to the letters page...

When women are making as much money as men

and men, but not women, still have to spend a big chunk of their incomes to get laid, will women mind paying for a larger share of everything else.

Nuff said

The reason for the wage gap is because even though woman can kind of do the same work as a man they can't quite do it in a man-y enough way. If you know what I mean.

if getting laid is breaking your budget...

"When women are making as much money as men

Maybe you should just stop going to prostitutes and try meeting women the old fashioned way?

And your point is?

You could marry one but she still has to be paid.

Tuesday, August 15, 2006 10:18 PM

So hold up

You had to PAY someone to marry you?

Wow, that sucks. Maybe you should have spent the money on charm school instead. Then maybe you could have found someone willing to do it for free.

Men have to spend a lot of money on things they wouldn't otherwise spend it on to make themselves attractive to women

(including their wives). Massive expenses on household furnishings that serve no purpose that could not be equally well served with something cheaper, for instance, but the more expensive item has to be bought to keep the woman happy. That kind of thing. Don't bother claiming that men do or could demand and get the same thing from high, or equal, earning women.

Wow

Trolls are hilarious! Kneeslappers, truly (wipes eyes). Pretty obvious why you guys have nothing else to do late at night. But consider a run on "Last Comic Standing!"

The piece was relevant, interesting, and exactly what I like to read on Broadsheet. BTW, the magazine "Pink" seems to be a step in the right direction as a reference for working women managers.

Too bad there's an utter lack of constructive input on the issue, but it's understandable -- who wants to sort through this distracting, irrelevant garbage to post a valid response?

I'll bite

Good blurb RT! Timely, strongly feminist, relevant, not totally surprising, but still good news. Good job!

Statistics?

If a high-ranking male executive leaves the company, and a woman is promoted to his position (and paid the same salary), then:

1. The average salary of the female employees has just gone up.

2. The average male salary has just gone down.

Don't mind the wage gap

The article and the study seemed like utter nonsense to me. Noting that when women are in higher up positions the female pay average goes up is simply stating the obvious.

At no point did they address the question of causes. Personally I believe that the gender with the higher average emotional intelligence is simply making career choices that are not driven exclusively by money.
