Women demand peace in the Middle East

Women's antiwar groups have become the most vocal protesters in the region.

The letters thread is now closed.

Israeli women overwhelmingly support

the war against Hamas/Lebanon, whether you or I or anyone else likes it or not. Shouldn't this blog post be entitled "A Few Women You've Never Heard of Demand Peace in the Middle East"?

Need more stories like this

As the previous letter writer points out, these women don't represent a majority in Israel - not that Ms. Goldstein suggests they do. But it reminds people that no group or nation is monolithic in its opinion, and that seeds of peace exist anywhere you look.

As for the first letter writer, what planet are you living on to think that Israel would be overwhelmed and forced into Islam were it not killing a few hundred non-Hezbollah Lebanese? Are you unaware that Israel is so well armed by my tax dollars that all the Arab nations combined couldn't wipe it off the map? Are you unaware that Israel has an arsenal of WMDs - including nuclear missiles? Well, rest your worried little heart – now you know better.

Avoid the hyperbole

"Women Deman Peace in the Middle East?" Technically correct, but a bit far reaching don't you think - how about, "A Woman's Group, Women Against War, Demand Peace in the Middle East." I am sure that if every woman in Middle East actually demanded/wanted peace then it would actually happen.

Off topic (like all the other men here)

I see Broadsheet's comments area still remains a sewer of hateful men looking for any article that they can twist around in order to repeat their favorite misogynist theories. I don't know which is more tragic, that so many male Salon readers are such hopeless emotional cripples, or that they think anyone is listening with anything other than disdain.

Sorry, fellows. Maybe you've got a captive audience at home or work that pretends to care about your mean little opinions, but the rest of the world doesn't give a flying F. Join the dialog in a meaningful way or go back to ranting at your relatives, because it's way past old here.

ceasefire now

Ceasefire now, so that Hezballah can get really serious and finish the job. They still haven't launched any rockets at Tel Aviv, or further south to Be'er Sheva. They can, and they should. Isn't that what the ceasefire is for, to get the enemy to stop firing so that the righteous Hezballah can do a better job launching rockets at Israeli infidel civilians?

What on earth are the Israelis doing, defending their people from unprovoked attacks? How dare they bomb civilian areas, even though those areas are the source of Hezballah's rockets? Can't they just cower defenselessly and allow their citizens to be attacked and made refugees in their own country all in the name of peace?

Jeez, get with the program. Don't engage in war for silly reasons like defending your citizenry from unprovoked attacks. Save the warfare for really serious things, like oil.

Dear Shelly

Somehow I don't think the non-terrorist Palestinians appreaciate the Israeli military bulldozing their homes and "accidentally" shooting their kids - any more than the non-military people in Israel like being shelled. If you believe that all death at Israeli hands was necessary for self defense, then you are just as delusional as any member of Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaida, the Nazi army, the Ku Klux Klan, etc. etc. etc.

delusions

Dear anonymous,

I don't recall saying that "all death [sic] at Israeli hands was necessary for self defense." Maybe that was something you read into my comment.
