Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe
Halle Berry and Eric Benet
Tom and Nicole (oops, different reason fro that one)
I am sure there are others, my pop culture trivia is not all here today.
A couple more to add to the list.
Helen Hunt/Hank Azaria
Emma Thompson/Kenneth Branagh
Of course, no one but they know what actually transpired in the relationship to cause its end. Can't necessarily blame it on the Oscar.
William H. Macy has far, far too much class to divorce Felicity Huffman, no matter how many awards she might win.
But as for Ryan Phillipe... we shall see.
...because odds are pretty good that he will eventually get one himself.
Ryan Philippe...not so much.
Well, Liz Taylor was divorced from Eddie Fisher after her first Oscar win and Richard Burton (the first time) after her second Oscar win.
Halle Berry was divorced from Eric Benet after her Oscar win. Ditto Emma Thompson & Kenneth Branagh. And Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum. And Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell. And Liza Minnelli and Peter Allen. And Jennifer Jones and Robert Walker.
Jane Fonda had 2 Oscars when she was divorced from failed politician Tom Hayden.
I believe Helen Hunt's romance with Hank Azaria ended after she won the Oscar.
It took 2 Oscars, but Hilary Swank & Chad Lowe may be heading in the same direction.
Perhaps knowing what was on the horizon, Ronald Reagan and Tom Cruise were divorced from Jane Wyman and Nicole Kidman (respectively) only a short while before the latter won their Best Actress trophies.
Then again, stalwarts Joanne Woodward and Julie Andrews continued to stay with their husbands for decades after their Oscar wins (and eventually, Paul Newman & Blake Edwards got some Academy recognition of their own).
'Nuff said.
Is that Hollywood is still incredibly conservative when it comes to gender politics. Which isn't really news, but depressing nonetheless.
Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratt broke up shortly after her Oscar, right?
because she did not want to live in San Francisco, where he grew up and currently resides with his wife. So I'm not in complete agreement that female success automatically destroys a relationship. Brad Pitt left an Oscarless Jen for an Oscar winning actress who does far more with her life than just act in movies. I would like to know how many men win an Oscar and stay with their wives, I can only think of Tom Hanks at the moment. Did James Cameron leave Linda Hamilton before or after the Oscar trophy came home for Titanic?
