I messed up my birth control, I had had surgery and forgot to take it for a few days. Had unprotected sex and remembered oh crap! So I took 2 pills right away and 3 more roughtly 10 to 14 hours later, then 2 more the next day, then continued on my regular pill cycle. I got pregnant anyway. Then I aborted it because I didn't think it would be healthy cause for 2 months, I was taking prescription pain meds, drinking, smoking and still taking the pill. Just saying, trying the do-it-yourself way, may not work out too well because the pill you are prescribed may not have a high enough dosage to do the trick. My pill had low hormone levels, due to mood swings and weight gain that I got with higher dosage pills, so they didn't work as a Plan B. Maybe if you take Ortho or some other higher dosage that may work.
An alternate is simply to push the knowledge that taking 4 or 5 bc pills, two in the AM and two or three in the PM twelve hours later, would do the same thing as Plan B - with no need for getting scrips or planning trips to the pharmacy. Get a pack of pills from the doc, or planned parenthood, and save them for emergency use. Yes, I'm encouraging secretly taking medicine into our own hands - it's better than letting the fundies control you by limiting access both by no over the counter and pharmacists claiming conscience when you DO get a scrip; which can easily put you past the two or 3 day window for the Plan B to work. The concept is not complicated. If you think that taking Plan B into your own hands is 'ill-advised', 'bad' or 'wrong', wait until women feel forced to do their own abortions.
