In your face, Larry Summers

Stanford marks the first anniversary of the Harvard president's sexist speech by holding a conference on women in math.

The letters thread is now closed.

So it's official then?

There are no brain differences between men and women, other than maybe some that make men inferior?

y the snark?

WTF is WRONG about the idea that women -- JUST LIKE MEN -- are more interesting and fun to be around when they happen to be good-looking, well-dressed, and self-confident, AS WELL AS intelligent and accomplished, than when they're unattractive, poorly attired, and slovenly?

While it's obviously a problem when women, as they too often are, get judged (and often by themselves) first, foremost, or only on their looks -- and while one can understand some oversensitivity on the subject considering for how long so many women HAVE been judged on just those terms -- we're at least starting to get past that.

So why the flipout -- and the near-certain hypocrisy, unless you really want us to believe that you (almost alone on the planet, if so) truly don't care one whit about what the guys you interact with look like, how they dress, and how they carry and present themselves.

Yes, Danica McKellar is obviously gorgeous as well as brilliant; that's a GOOD thing -- and the fact that I have probably 2/3 her IQ and at best 1/10 her looks doesn't change that, nor make me resent her for it. No snark necessary.

Go ahead, flame away; you know I'm right.

The snark because...

Well, I'm not sure I agree that attractive intelligent people are necessarily better company than plain old intelligent people... but I wasn't saying it was a bad thing that Danica McKellar is gorgeous as well as brainy. I was saying it struck me as weird that half the space on the conference schedule was devoted to pictures of McKellar's gorgeousness. Whether or not it's okay to judge people based on how attractive they are, it does seem silly to judge a math conference on how attractive its panelists are. And if the hot panelist were a guy, I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way.

The difference is that women get a pass on everything BUT looks so looks are all they get judged on(more or less)

Of course men have to meet a looks standard, along with many other standards, so looks are relatively less important since it's possible for a man, but not a woman, to be (relatively)good looking AND a social failure.

Yeah, Larry in your face!

Larry, you had the nerve to suppose, to question - to express an idea - to offer a personal opinion, to theorize, to try to understand, to think, to ask others to think, to propose, to start a conversation, to inquire - to ask, to communicate, to seek answers! So in your face! After all, why would anyone at a university want a leader who does any of the above? Your job is to grovel and to agree, to kiss the right ass, the hold the torch for the ideology du jour, to make believe that we are all the same, to defy science in the face dogma, to deny science in the face of popular opinion, to engage the rabble at the expense of your honor, the honor of your institution, the honor of the pedagogic tradition! You bent over Larry, and took it way up the poop, but the fangs aren't bloody enough, Larry, so keep on groveling and they'll still hate you, but they'll let you keep your job...

WTF?

The first thing you learn in psychology is that there are gender differences. Move on to neurology and you will see physiological differences. Most early psyc and medical studies were done only on men to eliminate these 'confounding factors' (same sex schools probably played a part also).

Should we also be complaining about the dearth of men in publishing? Isn't it OK to say that women are better communicators? I don't see anbody having a hissy fit over those items.

Get over this absolute equality BS and focus on fairness.

89% of GIRLS THINK MATH, COMPUTERS AND SCIENCE IS BOOOORING

Math, computers and science make lots of money. So are the girls stupid or not? Sounds stupid for sure.

Summers seems onto something despite the propagandist femin crowd's insane rantings.

And to the anonymous poster who thinks men are stupider than women, men create, invent, build, design, imagine 90% of the things in our world.

Even in this age when girls are encouraged to be like guys, very, very few women make a WORTHY film, or song, or play, or invention, or book, or design.

In a world where 50% of people are female, that is pretty convincingly damning evidence againt women's brains, abilities, desires, and/or interests.

Or is something STILL holding women down? some phantom patriarchy maybe?

Don't bother resaponding. I am right, you are wrong.

Hey, the gang's all here!

Brightstar, djbollman (like you think we don't recognize you!), jeffrey and that other guy. All that's left is for "No Name Given" to show up, and we'll have ourselves a nice get-together of the He-Man Woman-Haters Club, the gang of guys who can't let one thread go without inserting their pathetic self-serving cause into the mix.

Can't you guys do your circle-jerking elsewhere? It's getting FUCKING TIRESOME in here.

HOW TOUGH IS IT TO COUNTER SUCH LOSER MEN WITH A GOOD COUNTERARGUMENT?!? IT IS CALLED L A Z I N E S S

1. I only post in 1 out of 10 threads

2. I only post when I feel I have a worthy point of view

3. NO, I do not avoid posting if my opinion differs from feminist propaganda

4. For the thousandth time, I do not hate women. Or does not agreeing with feminist propaganda mean hating women? (So you mean I can now accuse any woman that disagrees with conservative males as HATING ALL MEN?) COOL.

5. We all know women are NEVER self serving.

6. If your arguments are so superior to mine, then you are quite welcome to make a VALID COUNTERARGUMENT TO MY POST. Since you cannot or do not want to, do not blame anyone for considering you to be nothing more than a troll with NO VALID POINT OF VIEW. Gotta give you this, you ARE good at namecalling and making personal attacks though.

7. I will remember next time some woman wants to voice her opinion to me, to put her down for saying anything that I do not agree with. TOUCHE

Thursday, February 9, 2006 12:04 PM

You are a loser. That much is obvious, even to you.

1. You do not have a worthy point of view because YOU'RE INSANE.

2. You keep repeating the same boring shit over and over: women are evil, women are stupid, women are liars, women secretly run the world, women are persecuting men, women are keeping men from having babies.

3. You are the very definition of "troll." You add NOTHING to any conversation because you keep yammering on like a brain-fried vagrant who smells like his own filth.

4. You totally hate women. It drips from every post of yours. That you cannot even recognize the themes in your own writing is creepy. And INSANE.

5. Somewhere in the back of your head, you actually KNOW that you're insane, but that thought is unbearable, so you insist that it is instead the rest of the world that is insane. You -- and the "all men" who agree with you -- are the only ones who really know what's going on. It would be sad if there were anything remotely redeeming about you.
