...precisely because she always plays a grownup. He also thinks that Diana Rigg is sexier now than when she was in "The Avengers." I think he'll be sorry to hear that Turner won't be doing any more American films. I hope she shows up on the European screen at some point in the near future.
Oh, by the way: he's 35 and is utterly bored by most younger actresses.
I have worked with Kathleen Turner, and I can tell you, the trouble with Kathleen Turner is not that she is old. The trouble is that she drinks on the job. This causes delays, it causes her weight to balloon during the few weeks she is supposed to be playing one character, and it causes embarrassment to her colleagues. Maybe the reason that Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren continue to be respected actresses is that they continue to conduct themselves like professionals. Much like other successful actresses who are over the age of 50, like Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, and Goldie Hawn, all of whom are American.
Since Kathleen Turner has always had that affected, put-on, pseudo Euro accent to her English, I wonder when she goes to Europe if she's going to start sounding American all of a sudden.
I realize she had a sort of int'l upbringing, but come on already. And WHAT IS with these actresses who have absolutely NO reason to "affect" the accent developing one?
I mean, Madonna's latest "vocal incarnation" Give me a break!
Appreciate the sentiments of Ms. Turner though. I'd much rather be Sophia Loren on her worst day than Britney Spears on her best...
If Kathleen Turner is moving to Rome, I think you want to sign off "Brava, signora, brava." Senora is Spanish, not Italian. I hope Italy will welcome her with open arms. Benvenuta, Kathleen!
She's no Sonia Braga nor Angelica Huston... rrwarr... hot stuff... for us grown-up guys...
I've always liked Kathleen Turner, but I don't see how she's brave and brilliant here. She benefitted from Hollywood's obsession with youth and superficiality when she was young and "beautiful", and now that she no longer fits the mold, she's rejecting it. Good for her, but it doesn't make her a hero.
I have long been an admirer of Kathleen Turner's work and I very
much respect her as a woman. It has always been about the work with
her, as opposed to these so-called starlets who seem only to care
about being seen in the latest couture and having their picture in
US Magazine. She has consistently searched for worthy film projects
and, in my opinion, has never turned into a typical Hollywood-whore
(a la Sharon Stone). On top of that, she has always returned to the
stage, even at the height of her film career, because that is where
her true love lies. Hopefully her fellow actors/directors/producers
will take heed of what she has to say and will realize that it is
their loss and Europe's gain. She is and always was an amazing
actress. I look forward to her future work.
