I have family is Espanola, I spend several weeks a year there, and it does not surprise me a bit that hometown pride is supposed by the demented inhabitants of that dive to flow from the prospect of young women attempting to beat the shit out of each other while egged on by friends, lovers and parents; the Espanola Valley is a place where an entire culture is rapidly being swamped by a rising tide of drugs, domestic abuse and macho fratricide, from which the survivors graduate into a world of adult corruption and incompetence advanced from their childhood only in that its inhabitants are generally better armed and of legal drinking age.
