Not so uncommon

When I worked for a large not for profit PPO in NYS years ago there were rumors of a few providers who were kept on despite having several assault charges from patients against them. And, we were compelled by contract to continues to direct and recommend patients to them during this time because these providers were in a very narrow specialty that was not supported by any other providers in the network. Since our contract said we provided services in XY & Z specialty - we had to even though the only people we had to do that were molesting their own patients.

just so we're clear on life imitating art imitating life

"Dead Ringers" was loosely based on a true story of twin gynecologists from the Upper East Side, Steven and Cyril Marcus.

Both men are doctors, but still.

I read about these two guys. The brother happens to be a doctor as well, so he may not be able to be prosecuted as "impersonating a doctor". But he's a GP, not a gynecologist, and besides, he still wasn't the doctor that the patients thought they were seeing. Besides the whole sexual assault thing. Creepy no matter how you look at it.

Moral of the story...

Always go to female gynecologists.

The only man gonna see me in *that* position is my fiance.

doctors protect doctors

sadly, Doctors protect Doctors.

I'd have thought they'd be insulted by seeing a collegue smear the profession, but no.

Countless cases show how the medical review boards (other doctors) delay action for years and protect doctors. It's like a fraternity where the protect each other.
