Condom in a can

China welcomes a new and yak-worthy form of contraception.

It's nothing new, really.

Contraceptive foam has been around forever! When I was first seeking contraceptive methods (back in the early 70s), foam was cheap, easy to get at any drugstore, and not too awfully weird. Messy as hell, though!

What?

Right. And those latex barriers coated with spermicide are so much tastier.

Sounds like regular old contraceptive foam. Since when is everything so damn repulsive to everyone? What's the problem? It can't be vaginal insertion.... is it the size or shape of the can? Is it the fact that it's from China? What's the deal?

Yack?

I too don't understand the "yack" reference. I'd think you'd be pleased there's an additional form of contraception available to Chineese women...

Membrane

They say it forms a "membrane" which I think is how it differs from plain ol' spermicides. Also - silver! How cool is that? It's like contraceptive jewelry...sort of.

And the problem is ...

Yeah, what is wrong with this? Why the "Yack". Women's reproductive health should be all about choices. If people are out there trying to come up with new inventions and ideas, shouldn't self-proclaimed feminist Rebecca Traister be rejoicing -- even if she personally wouldn't want to use it?

What's this about a nozzle?

There is only one nozzle I want to insert into a woman's...Oh, never mind.

Yak worthy

I'm a little unclear about what makes this "yak worthy." Given the recent horrific problems with the birthcontrol "patch" and the general lack of good, effective non-hormonal birthcontrol options for women, I'm all for any news on the birthcontrol front. Not to mention that an effective barrier method in the control of women could prevent the spread of millions of cases of AIDS and HIV in situations where women do not have the power or the authority to convince their partners to use a condom.

How is this any yakkier than foam?

just curious

chinese condoms

Speaking of strange Chinese condoms... I still regret not bringing back some of the green tea flavoured condoms that were for sale in Chinese convenience stores. I just can't imagine the appeal of that flavour.
