Wouldn't this policy also strongly encourage their employees to get abortions if they do get pregnant? So much for the Culture of Life [TM].
Typical hypocrisy of the Catholic Church.
The woman actually has premarital sex* (One down), without using birth control* (One up -- sex is for procreation), gets pregnant* (One up -- making more little Catholics), and doesn't have an abortion* (one up), but she's punished for it?
If the Catholic Church were founded and run by women, menstruation, pregnancy and menopause would be sacraments, and you'd have to say a couple of Hail Marys and an Our Father as penance for an abortion...

It's not the school's fault that they can see the result of her actions. If the school heard through any channel that a man was doing the same thing (i.e, premarital sex), then they should fire him. Unless she can prove men are being treated differently, she shouldn't have a case. But for the woman to say the school has to ignore what it sees right in front of their eyes is silly.
I think the district's policy is wrong, as a Catholic. I think showing that people are human and make mistakes according to Catholic theology would prove far more instructive than firing her. Or, they can use this case to show that some Catholics see no sin in sexual issues outside the Catholic teaching. But bundling her out the door encourages shame and fear, which is the last thing the current Church needs today.
This is pretty ironic, isn't it, given that one of the most cherished symbols of the Catholic Church is Mary, an unwed pregnant woman?
