Congressmen as doctors?

While I think that having EC available over the counter to all women is an important thing, I don't feel very comfortable giving congress power over the FDA like this. The FDA might be overrun with politicians, but congress is 100% politicians. People employed by the FDA are going to know a lot more about why drugs are approved or disapproved than congresspeople are. What we need is to get the ideologues out of the FDA, and let the scientists and doctors do their jobs, because congress can't do it for them.
