Please. Really, please. I love Salon, I really do. But one of the things I look to Salon for is 21st century reporting. I am appalled by the introduction of this section.
Speaking as a "broad," I really don't need my news culled by gender. I'm quite bright enough, thank you very much, to recognize those news stories that offend my delicate womanly sensibilities on my own without the aid of pink graphics or "we heart [fill in the blank] condescending copy writing.
Really, what are you thinking? Or are you marketing to the same crew that buys Bratz(TM) dolls?
Rethink this, I beg you. I really hate it.
Signed,
A loyal (for now) reader
I dunno... the whole partly-ironic pink/sassy/'aren't we fabulous?" look and feel of the new section strikes me as weirdly self-patronizing and a bit sad. She may not see it yet...but whoever puts this stuff together seems doomed to someday marry a sexist poet and stick her head in an oven.
It just feels a little bit icky.
I've been trying to figure out what about this new feature bothers me and my first conclusion is the color. Get rid of the pink. I don't think Salon readers need their news color coded. The pink and the stylized drawing of the girly writer remind me of something I'd find in one of those many womens magazines that I avoid.
Love the new Blog!!
Grrls need love, too.
I have to admit, I'm getting kind of turned off by the endless snarkfest Salon is becoming. Is there anything on this site worth reading besides War Room, Daou Report, Cary Tennis, King Kaufman, and the increasingly rare political articles?
Oh well, long live postmodern irony, I guess.
what in the world is this?
What in the world is going on at Salon? Do you think all women read chick lit? Do you think we need one more blog full of hot air at best, bull shit at worst?
Pity. Salon used to be a good magazine, now it's a trend-follower.
Make this go away, please. It's pathetic.
