[Read the article: Is the Internet eroding America's Puritanism -- or making it worse?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Communication between individuals, across the globe, is on the rise. Is this good?
In the end, this century or the next, I think it will be for the good. Your focus in this article was on sexual scandals and morality. As the years roll by and more people are exposed to others' sensibilities and feelings and life experiences through this new, exciting and shockingly unheralded medium I believe that there will be a very gradual shift toward 'live and let live'. And toward personal lives being personal (believe it or not!). The shift will eventually evolve to where others' social and political actions involving others will become more important than others' personal lives.
I believe morality can be parceled (I am not religious or spiritual). I believe we can have effective leaders whose actions (publicly for the good of us all) outweigh our judgements on these same leaders' personal lives. Of course, this has already happened many times in the past few thousand years. But the 'net' is exposing personal lives more than ever.
That said, I consider myself to be a very moral person and I am more comfortable with a 'moral' leader.
But things will change. For the better.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sir
I agree with your thoughts completely. But we are out numbered by the ones who seek to thrill with comment and degrade with humor. Or impress with disregard. Or thrill with humor and degrade with comment. And so on and so forth.
Humanity and human interest can sometimes be such a burden on those who can comment with abandon that they struggle with how to degrade without abandining compassion altogether.
And here is where I sense or draw a line: Fark farkones are the ones who bear the burden of the future of humanity. And they bear that burden without a trace of humility. god knows and forgives, godfarkit sincerely and forever

[Read the article: Indie box office: Lennon's assassin a hit, man]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There is nothing wrong with curiousity about the dark side. I have my own curiosity about it. But to allow a cold blooded murderer (not even motivated by revenge or emotion...but simply a hunger for fame) his turn at the fame that he so desired by shooting someone to death is simply wrong. A reward ill deserved. Period. And it only encourages the others...
But I am also consumed with the empty, sad and continuing saga of our human nature. I know comments like mine and the others who agree with me in these comments are equivalent to pissing into the wind. so be it

[Read the article: The Obama difference]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]IF this country elects this half black, half white inexperienced man, then all hell will break loose. As of now, he has my vote. This will be interesting, to say the least.

I want obama but
[Read the article: Is it "contradictory" to decry the right's tactics while insisting on their equal application?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It ain't gonna happen, folks. Though electing him would be wonderful, it ain't gonna happen, cause too many white men and women will vote for McCain.
And I hate that.

about Kentucky voters
[Read the article: Division in Democratic ranks?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I want to respond to many posters here about Kentucky. I have lived here in central Kentucky, the beautiful bluegrass, since 1977. I am 56 yrs old. Born in Ohio and moved down here when I was 25. Many wonder why Democratic voters here might vote for McCain in the general. I am going to highlight debpet's post for argument.
"Do they really not have any concept of what the election of John McCain would mean for this country with regard to all the significant concerns they would no doubt claim to care about...Supreme Court appointments and their impact on reproductive rights and civil liberties, the endless war in Iraq and our shattered relations with the rest of the world in general, the health care crisis, the increasing economic squeeze being placed on most Americans, and the critical need to confront issues of global climate change and the related energy policies?"
Deb, my fellow state inhabitants put conservative issues first, despite their democratic registration. They believe abortion is wrong, the war in Iraq is against the bad people and for freedom and democracy. They believe our 'relations' with the rest of the world matter less than our own little 'world'. Global climate change? They think it's not true.
When I say 'they' and 'their' I am of course speaking in generalities. There are many progressive thinkers here, including me. I voted in the primary this morning for Barack and I desperately want him to win, desperately.
But, my fellow Kentuckians, don't get me wrong. And I sincerely mean this. I really respect y'all and admire many things about you.
However, progressive thinkers and Obama should probably just write my favorite state off, I guess. Sorry.

Glenn Greenwald is a walking, talking sphere of influence
[Read the article: Michael O'Hanlon's defense of his pro-war record]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]or whatever. I click on you every day, Glenn, and I am slightly depressed when I find no new words from you, sir.
I have found lately, to my chagrin, that you are not infallible. Nor is my preferred candidate, Mr. Obama. But perfection is unattainable and I will settle for reaching for equal rights and opportunities for everyone. And documenting the ones who deny these things through actions based on power and profit (and misplaced beliefs). Glenn, you dear homosexual, you are my hero. You obviously research your blog entries and I am sure you have heard from many people, from the regular folk, like me, along with the more important, famous and infamous. I hope you stick around. I say that to mean: in the public sphere. Please do. I will be reading and supporting your efforts. Your views have never disappointed me (au contraire, they have inspired me). I guess we are in sync.
ps: your commenters are certainly helpful and inspiring themselves....thank you, commenters
