Bush's REAL legacy

George W. Bush, eternally concerned about his 'legacy', need worry no more. He has indeed a great and lasting legacy, albeit NOT the kind he might have wished for. Because of Bush, millions of new voters were energized to register, and vote - for the Democratic candidate! Surely a proud moment in the inconsequential existence of our stupidest president in history! Better even than catching a five pound bass at his "pretend" ranch in Crawford!!! Dubya, we hardly rue ya!

It's the jobs, stupid

What gets me is the blind assumption that granting this bailout will either stop job losses or create more jobs. When was the last time any large corporation created new jobs? The overt trend is always to merge and shed workforce. When was the. If allowed, Big Auto will swallow this drop in a bucket and beg for more before the Valentines Day. They will take these billions, cut another 20% of their workforce in the US, and continue to drag their feet on alternative fuel technology. CEO compensation is the biggest problem existing. Putting that much money into payroll expenses distorts thinking, and rationality flies out the window. It's not the unions that are breaking the Big Three, that's utter nonsense; it the CEO packages the sycophantic boards keep handing out. With the bailout billions they are contemplating, it would be cheaper for the government just to send a stimulus check of a quarter-million USD to every household. Now THAT"S a stimulus check. Stop giving the money to the corporate fat rats. Skip those sticky-fingered greedy middlemen and stimulate the economy by direct application of cash. EVERYBODY would be able to buy a new car, would stop worrying about surviving the winter/summer/spring/fall, could amend their funky mortgages to reasonable rates, could send their children on to college. People with money would BUY CARS from the corporations who would then sell the efficient models they already make for foreign markets and thereby help keep these same corporations afloat in a highly competitive global economy. They can boost production in their foreign plants (helping those local economies) while they retool here; they could send teams from the US plants (creating some good jobs) to those locations to observe and emulate this different business philosophy, building cars that get good gas mileage. Corporations would still have product on the market (keeping salesmen and repairmen employed), it would be a product the people want (generating high levels of customer interest and spawning heavy internet involvement), and as soon as they got retooled stateside (bunch of jobs there), hey presto, jobs galore!

Hog Wild at the Hoedown

Both trotters in the trough, Bush's faithful hounds of doom celebrated the end of what has been the most media-compliant administration in history. Never have the print and tv media cooperated so fully and enthusiatically, never has the White House had such control over 'message'. When not clanging out the daily 'talking points' provided by the WH, the talking heads and sour scribblers are clacking about the 'success' of the wars being waged in our name and at our expense. The media have by and large been avid accomplices, spreading disinformation to the American public. Let them end their glorious era in a manner truly befitting these patronage pigs - drinking Jesus juice with Dubya.

Original article: Health for hard times

Shopping for Health

I have no health insurance at all. I have an understanding with my doctor, I only see him for refills, and he has cut it down to twice a year. I buy some prescriptions at Sam's Club which has the same discount apothecary as Walmart. I also regularly do online price comparisons and buy my more expensive drugs from Canadian pharmacies. They are way cheaper, and sometimes have OTC products no longer sold in the US. I use the older drugs whenever possible as they tend to be cheaper, just as effective and have fewer side effects. I use the drug 'tools' my doctor gives me to manage my chronic conditions (GERD, IBS, migraines, hyperacidity with multiple stomach ulcers, dreadful pollen allergies), and ask questions about anything that concerns me. My doctor is a gem above price!

Original article: Sarah Palin is not bitter

Once a Pageant Queen, always...

She's almost cute in a weird way. Her remarks show her perpetual pageant queen mentality. This blather is the typical response of the runner up! She didn't win the tiara so the other contestant must have cheated. She's got the Number Two Blues. I bet she was a real treat in the dressing rooms.

Demon Doughnuts

The really disturbing thing which is totally ignored in this article is the well-known affinity of the demon glazed doughnut for the Southern Baptist Church. No Baptist church function can take place without the requisite dozen glazed; a recent study even found a direct link between doughnut-induced obesity and relative devotion to the church! This doughnut thing just gets more sinister daily. I personally never pollute my body with the demon glazed. I always go for the jam-filled. (And no snarky remarks about what THAT indicates!!)

Beg to Differ

I must take exception: this administration did not start out third rate. It started out fifth rate; so really it has not lived up to its early promise. Pity, really, but what an opportunity to observe social experimentation. An administration of such lowly origins, with all that room to improve; and the daily observation of said administration sinking lower each day, diligently digging through the muck to seek their 'base' constituency'. And then, finally, when the base has been located, Satan ups and says,"Sorry, boys, this is MY corner!"

Freedom is Scary

There will always be those, of both genders, who prize safety above all else. The remarks from these women themselves echo the statements Asian ladies make about their traditional covered-up garb; they speak of feeling 'safe' and protected by their religious obedience. For many, that is appealing. For many others, a more direct worldly experience is desired. To each his own!
