as usual, there's more to this story.

While Glenn suggests this is a run of the mill protest, the RNC Welcoming Committee suggests otherwise (www.nornc.org).

Just a few excerpts:

Under the "Goals" heading.

"Crash the Convention – We didn’t get an invitation, but we’re showing up anyway....Together, we can derail the purely ceremonial show of this repressive system and remake it with our own hands and according to our own visions."

Under "How we get there."

"2. Transportation Troubles – This includes blockades downtown (at key intersections), on bridges (10 bridges over the Mississippi River in the metro area), and other sporadic and strategic targets (busses, hotel and airport shuttles etc)."

Check out the website for yourself. These aren't a group of kids painting signs to wave in front of the convention.

Glenn

Thanks for the clarification.

Glenn

I posted that before I read your clarification. A raid on a home is much different (in my mind, anyway) than a raid on a rental hall/headquarter.

Anyone know when Bristol turned 17?

Or anything about the statutory rape laws in Alaska? Everything on the web says she was born circa 1991. This could be a very serious matter.

What's good for Genarlow is good for Bristol's future hubby.

Yep, that journalism degree from University of Idaho really set her up to be VP. Or maybe it was the Miss Alaska pageant that she'll find most useful as VP. Or, wait, you know, I'll bet it's her time as a sportscaster for a local Alaska newscast that she'll find invaluable.

Get a fucking clue. She's simply not qualified to be VP.

We should not just let this slide.

It is not okay to have a child at 17. It is irresponsible. It should not be supported. The parents should be ashamed, and shamed by the general public. That's how the values of a society are set forth and upheld.

jpetty

It's exactly your dismissive attitude that leads to more and more teen pregnancies. It's not okay to bring a child into the world at 17 when you are not able to care for it. She should be thinking about colleges, not baby names.

Monday, September 1, 2008 06:45 PM

Keep talking about this.

One's children are a reflection of the parents. It isn't a surprise that Chelsea Clinton went to Stanford and has a Masters from Oxford and went on to be successful, while the loser Bush twins are caught with fake IDs drunk in a bar in Austin. And isn't one the Bush cousins a drug addict? So, this is a real issue.

Protecting her daughter.

She could politely tell Mr. McCain that she has very serious family matters (pregnant teenage daughter on top of a four month old special needs infant) to deal with and withdraw.

Anything to win. They know this is a disaster, they can't admit it because it would hurt their cause. So they all have to come out supporting the Palins (celebrating!!!) and their irresponsible daughter.

Monday, September 1, 2008 07:26 PM

And about this marriage...

If she's 5 months pregnant, and were really planning on getting married before the story broke, why aren't they married yet?

Unless it's black-on-white a la Genarlow Wilson. Then you deserve 10 years in prison.

Huge difference between Obama's mother and Palin's daughter. Obama had absolutely no influence in the life of his mother. However, Palin raised the daughter and we see the outcome. Nice try, but they are not even close.

Face it, McCain's pick is a disaster, and this is only the start.

that was satire.

Fruit flies and the gay gene

This is often misrepresented. They (fruitless mutants) are not gay flies, they court indiscriminately. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Switch banks.

That stretch of downtown Berkeley smells like hobo urine anyway.

Announcers

The announcers did, as a matter of fact, say that they thought Shanahan may be going for two to give the Chargers a chance to stop them and win since the call was so blatantly bad. Don't be such a know-it-all because you look like an ass when you're wrong.

Kornheiser sucks.

There should really be a movement to get him taken off of MNF. He's horrible. And I thought Dennis Miller was as bad as it could get...

Re: I've taken on tougher guys than this before.

Sounds like something John Walsh would say on America's Most Wanted.

One of their own.

Just goes to show, regardless of political stripe, they'll protect their own when push comes to shove.

I don't get it.

Why don't the Dems do a better job of pointing out the fact that when Republicans talk about Dems raising taxes, they are really talking about raising taxes on the wealthy. It's these tactics that get stupid, lower middle class "low information voters" to back Republican policies that benefit the wealthy.

Biden had a perfect opportunity in yesterday's debate when Palin used that same 94 votes line and punted.

Elephantman

It's good to see someone sticking up for the US makers. Seems they get bashed for making big trucks and SUVs while Honda, Toyota, Nissan all make similar trucks and SUVs. Ever see a Toyota Sequoia? You could fit a Ford Explorer in the back seat. Not to mention the US makers are paying 50 years worth of pensions and use union workers. I don't understand why liberals hate companies that take care of their workers. Sometimes I hate the Bay Area.

The fad was really high gas prices. That was an unprecedented spike caused by investors. A 6% drop in demand led to a 60% drop in crude oil prices. That was the investors jumping out of the market.

Wasn't nearly as bad as the UM-MSU game, where a UM receiver was given a TD catch without ever setting a foot in bounds. They reviewed it and made up a rule (his foot touched the pylon, so he's in bounds!!!) to give UM TD. Absolutely unbelievable.

They are called hobos, Andrew. Not exactly representative of the developed world at large.
