i was originally against it, wanting everyone to have screen names, figuring that was protection enough, and i like getting to know people. but "No Name Given" (undoubtedly a woman) changed my mind. this is what it said "battered and abused women more often than not would love to remain anonymous to try to protect themselves. Rape and molestation victems, women who've had abortions. Somethings I imagine the salon would NOT want to suppress, but would warmly welcome their perspectives and perhaps added insights." in addition i'd like to know how many nazis are out there. for me, this isn't feeding paranoia, but analysis of threat. you can't legislate courage, and they are just as much americans and their voice is just as valuable as anyone else's. still, i'd encourage everyone to adopt screen names. so i can get to know you. for instance. the paragraph "No Name Given" wrote was general, not in any way personal, she could put that under her screen name. something bitterly personal she could post anonymously. i think dialog is the heart of posting.

what are anchor tags? if "Kill the pagination" means all the letters are on one page, i totally agree. to find that particular No Name Given i had to search all the pages, yes, thanks to a remembered word "abortion" and the wonderful Find in This Page, i did it in a couple of minutes, but it would be so much easier in a couple of seconds. i don't agree with "Threaded replies", however, i want to read *everything*. and besides, that kills the killing of pagination.

  • obviously Nahid was not the target

but the israelis have to do something - their public demands it. when 9/11 happened we went to war with afghanistan and i'm sure more innocent afghans were killed than guilty. again obviously, lobbing missiles after rockets doesn't work. go in with infantry? more israelis will be killed and it would cause a greater uproar. should israel just take it? put up with a few rockets and ignore its citizens? i'm sure that soccer field would become a semi-permanent military installation. it is true that hamas held to its truce, but it allowed the Islamic Jihad to continue. it would be odd if there weren't collusion - especially since it only seems to fight fatah - perhaps that's because iran sponsors them both. just a word on "the impoverished Palestinian public" - it's not impoverished like, say darfur. the lifespan is over 70 and the birthrate is the highest in the world. these are not the statistics of the impoverished. they have very few *things* however. why? the EU and the oil states support them with food subsidies. so they have enough to eat and the israelis provide them with medical care so they live relatively long(not as long as israelis but longer than other arabs, for instance, the jordanian palestinians who constitute more than half the population of that country)

  • everyone is slowly filing in!

hi Golden Boy, hi LeCastor. many more to come, Locutus, dayenu, Sam the Sham (without the Pharaohs). good to see you GB and LC! (missed you on the other thread - the misogenist's delight). i *like* Ben Dover, LC, you just have to know how to "read" him. and i really believe GB only has one name.

i prefer insults to blandness. the only way i ever learn is by disagreement. perhaps you are more reasoned than i. what will this accomplish, you say. for one i have my own name - i HATED seeing insults coming back at me - *from* me. but i learned from that as well. after all, what is david sugarman to you (or hecuba for that matter). some jewish guy who like archy (archy and mehitabel) won't use the shift key (it's HARD! pinkie AND another!). so i learned something about myself. i cared. ridiculous, but that's me. another is that i won't get anything like "your proctologist called, he found your head". and, sadly, nooble is gone (hey nooble! *that* name's still here! (and you can *always* sign it as you like, just before the "nooble)) what will happen is half the spice will be gone from the troll's dish. so i expect fewer of them - but more anonymous insults. so what? there aren't many trolls here. and you can always disagree. peppers up the dish. "schoolmarm" is an insult, so is "troll" - which do you prefer?

you have to backspace and cut them out. probably something with TEXTAREA wrap (showing off my knowledge of html tags). so you really *can't* order a letter like a poem. you just have to have it run on like this. if you hit enter you get a space. ok for *huge* posts, but annoying if they didn't do preview. you have to improvise. if you have lists, you number them.

  • LC, GB said he did?

he might just have been lying. i wouldn't put it past him. you and he got under each other's skin. quite a ruckus! perhaps you and he will realize that neither of you is going to convince the other and avoid those topics, then again, perhaps you'll decide to run an exhaustion race. (in that case, my money's on you!)

(and so does Bukk63) i was wondering how to accomodate both me and SunshineNYC. i *like* insults to me. i like everything. i like exercising *all* my emotions. perhaps you could delete everything directed at SunshineNYC. nah that wouldn't work, she *wants* to read "nice" things. how about deleting all posts that have *both* sunshineNYC and the seven nasty carlin words? nah, too much effort. the answer is...you can't please everybody! (so please me instead)
