You also hear tales of lobbyisits and other "interested parties" sitting in the House or Senate galleries giving hand signals to certain lawmakers when it comes time to vote on certain bills. Not to mention how committee assignments and chairmanships are given to those who most enthusiastically funnel money to the speaker and his favorite "interests." I just LOVE democracy, don't you!

It's always great to be complaining abou this stuff to people, only to have them cynically wave it off as "just politics."

He even managed to consult Wikipedia on this issue of habeas corpus.

That one made me laugh out loud.

I saw a guy once quote Wikipedia as saying that the Taliban ruled Afghanistan AND Iraq leading up to the US invasion of Iraq. Which is outrageous, of course. I clicked on his link, and sure enough, that's what Wikipedia said. So I changed it so that it only cited Afghanistan as ever being under Taliban rule. Anyone who is moderately capable of surfing the internet is capable of editing a Wikipedia entry to say whatever you want it to say.

It was that easy. It only took a few minutes. I don't know the first thing about HTML or code or building websites or any of that. Heck, just doing blockquotes and italics here is the extent of my "knowledge." You can even go into an archive fairly easily and check what edits have been made.

  • I certainly HOPE so!

I also suspect people will remember George W. Bush longer than they will Al Gore...just my opinion of course.

I hope Bush is never forgotten. I want the world to remember America's biggest electoral mistake forever. Mistakes like that need to be remembered and learned from for centuries.

Funny, when I think of Hillary Clinton, I also hope people remember their mistakes and she isn't elected to the Presidency!

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

So, all of those good liberals who send their children to all white public and private schools are definitely not racists. And those same whites who clamor for more unrestricted immigration from third world countries in the hope that they will replace blacks aren't racists either. Nope!

Nothing but a bunch of strawman bullshit.

Here I thought that the source of liberal evil in this country was George Soros and Hollywood, I now come to find out that it's actually California prison guards. Never would have guessed that in a thousand years. Thankfully I read Salon letters, or perhaps I never would have found out the truth!

Oh my God, you mean the government might actually stumble across a conversation I may or may not have with my brother when we're talking about placing bets on the NFL football this Sunday? -- And just so we can catch some sand ant scheming to take out Los Angeles with a dirty bomb?!!! Why that's unconscionable!!!

You lefties all wanted a one world fascist order.

Care to explain what the hell you're talking about? (Or is this another ham-fisted attempt at "satire"?)

Umm, yeah. In this case, since I'm still not entirely sure where you're going with this, I'll speak for myself. No. I don't want what it sounds like you're saying

that "all liberals" want. I don't want a fascist, all-knowing, government entitity watching our every move. Care to enlighten us as to how or where you got the idea that's what any "liberal" wants?

Well, I sure stand corrected! Thank god for the brave souls in their tin-foil hats who valiantly tell the rest of us what it is that we REALLY believe. I better stop on the way home and get me a Ron Paul yard sign!

then YOU are the problem that needs to be exterminated if this REPUBLIC is to survive.

Is it "me" or the "problem" that needs to be exterminated? And are you fairly representative of Ron Paul's fan base in general? I just want to know if I need to worry about bumping in to any Ron Paul fans who just might think I ought to be exterminated. Thanks.

Strictly in the interest of efficiency, let's merge the IRS, with the Department of Homeland Security. You know, so the government can legally evesdrop on your phone calls with your tax attorney. If you haven't done anything wrong, there's nothing to worry about! Man, that's the best idea I've had in ages....

    2. Show the Taliban that we AREN'T going away and that if they try to enact their previous activities, we will stop them.

Oh, we're talking about Afghanistan now? I thought we were talking about Iraq.

It just reinforces the fact that in the delusional minds of Iraq war supporters, it is now and always has been about 9/11.

All he's doing is trying to be a "good soldier." He's been trained to not question the reasons why he's been asked to do the job he's been asked to do. Not on any grounds: moral, strategic, political, etc. He's an authritarian by trade, and he's just following orders. Sure, it makes his job easier to only focus on aspects that provide support in his own mind for his mission. Maybe even distort or invent "facts" to provide even more "support" in his own mind. Given his training, that's only natural. But a "good soldier" can't be walking around with a head full of cognitive dissonance, wondering what the hell he's doing and why. "Why" is the last question he should be asking himself. It just doesn't work that way. According to his training.
