@Gordon

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've read John Dean's book, Altemeyer's stuff, and of course Glenn, but what really crystallized that "personality type" for me was Chris Hedges' "American Fascists."

@SomeNYGuy

Hey, go easy on shooter. He was out there on the links early this morning, keepin' it real and supporting our troops all at the same time. Remember, this is a guy who felt no obligation to serve in the military simply because he was never drafted. What luck. It's as easy as that! God just seems to smile on some people, doesn't he?

@Andrew Sullivan

So why the "focus" on Klein? Maybe because, through is actions, Klein's basically asking for it? It's not like Glenn singles out Klein daily, or even weekly. Glenn points out each of these guys' examples of "Beltway blindess" fairly evenly, as I see it. Who can ask for more than that?

tiberius' post is wonderfully illustrative

To think that he could have read Tim's post, and come to the conclusions he came to, proves that some people can look at the forest with keen interest--maybe with a telescope, or maybe with a microscope--and will never understand. Not even close. Tiberius' conclusions reek of his own narrow-minded biases and prejudices. He obviously has his mind made up before he reads something, then rearranges the facts in his head after he reads it to make sure his conclusions match what he believed before he read it. It goes beyond hed-herrings and strawmen. He actually invents things that Tim clearly never stated or even implied. Amazing.

A Note to the "Ho-Hum" crowd

Would you prefer that stories like this not be covered or written about at all? What's your point exactly, other than to paint yourselves as jaded and superior in that "I'm-sooo-cool....I've-seen-this-a-million-times" way? It's not a matter of anyone being "surprised." More importantly, it's necessary to document every single one of these Republicans' excesses and corruption during their reign over the White House and Congress. So spare us the condescension, please. None of us is shocked by these stories, and none of us is surprised. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't illuminate it or discuss it. Not by a long shot.

Impeachment

I really don't think it's a matter of whether they have enough time or not. They have plenty of time to impeach AND do the rest of their work. I think they're really afraid of trying and failing, and how that would be perceived. I really think that's the bottom line. I wish the Congressional Democrats would realize that they're gonna be painted as "partisan" no matter what they do. Even if they do nothing, they'll always be painted as partisan. They need to get over their fears about how they're being perceived, and get on with it!

Thanks, magno68

Thanks for parroting some of the lamest right-wing talking points for us. It's an ablsolute myth that it's only the left-wing fringe that supports impeaching Bush. Polls have shown consistently for some time now that the majority of Americans support impeaching Bush and Cheney, just as they support a relatively quick exit from Iraq. It's up to Congress to honor both of those wishes. It's what they were elected to do.

This sentence just made my day!

"UPDATE: In March, 2003, Michael O'Hanlon -- the Joan Baez of our time -- was one of the signatories to a letter on Iraq policy issued by Project for New American Century, Bill Kristol's warmongering group."

Typical Republican red-herring

In that whole long-winded bunch of hokum, he never explains WHY he's right. Just that public opinion has nothing to do with whether he's right or wrong. Typical Republican red-herring dodge.

I think the reason Cheney is more hated than Bush, is that most of us believe that Cheney is smart enough not to believe his own bullshit. But Bush, there's something about him that makes (me at least) believe that he just might believe his own bullshit. And to some people, that's seen as more "honest," in a weird sort of way. It's almost endearing, I think. Don't get me wrong, though. My contempt for Bush has never wavered. I always among the 9% who saw through his nonsense during the 9/11 aftermath. But I have a lot more contempt for those who are stupid and selfish enough to buy into his horseshit, and even more for the "architects" of his charade, like Cheney and Rove.

@Jim RE: polls

As far as the subject at hand is concerned, the polls have not wobbled at all as far as unified opposition to this Administration goes. They have only grown stronger in their displeasure. His claim that they wobble is a lie, or only refers to polls in the historical sense, which is hypothetical, and meaningless to the line of questioning. And he knows it.

Democrats are not the only "losers"

The worst thing one can be in American politics and American culture generally is a loser, and Democrats perpetually turn themselves into losers...

What really amazes in light of Glenn's point is that 9/11 happened under Bush's watch, yet it's the Democrats who are losers. Bush taunted Iraqi insurgents with "bring 'em on," yet the Democrats are losers. Bush got on an aircraft carrier in front of the "Mission Accomplished" banner, yet the Democrats are losers. In spite of all of Bush's gaffes, mistakes and incompetence over the last six years, the Democrats have always ended up on the losing end.

In reality, it's the American people who voted for Bush who are losers--along with Bush himself--and they have turned all of us into a nation of losers in the eyes of the rest of the world. Great work, folks!

DINOs and RINOs

When counting votes on these sorts of matters, keep in mind that there are always some DINOs to account for, whereas RINOs are basicaly non-exostent. That's the bottom line.
