  • You guys are missing the point

[Read the article: Who's the "most liberal" candidate? Here we go again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Of course being a liberal is a good thing. In fact, it's a great thing. But the point is that the right--and by extension the MSM--is painting an inaccurate picture of where the candidates stand in relation to each other. It's up to each individual to decide for themselves whether being a liberal is a good thing or not. Reports like the one Tim is writing about do a disservice to voters of every stripe because they're not accurate. And it serves its purpose for those who wrote it because only a fraction of the voters are going to bother to fact check it. The average voter will accept it on its face.

  • I get to be the judge?

[Read the article: White House: No sworn testimony from Rove, Miers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Okay, I in favor of "brinksmanship."

  • Correction

[Read the article: White House: No sworn testimony from Rove, Miers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That was supposed to be "rule in favor." I guess this can be considered a "signing statement" of sorts.

  • Latest Republican tactic

[Read the article: The president's oh-so-noble reliance on "executive privilege"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

as evidenced by the Major's post: Hitting the bottle. Hard.

    Truer words were never spoken:

"I regret that it turned into a public spectacle." --President Bush, March 20, 2007, on the attorney firings scandal.

  • @No Name Given

[Read the article: Preaching to the choir]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That's the funniest post I've seen here in a long time.

Oh, and FYI, using Salon's nifty search function will show you that Salon has indeed covered the silly Bong hits for jesus case.. We'll all sit here patiently waiting for your apology.

  • Joe isn't only

an "atheist who doesn’t own a gun," but he also had to repeat kindergarten three times because everytime he was given crayons and asked to play “connect-the-dots,” he kept coming up with an elephant wearing an Uncle Sam hat.

  • Isn't it great

[Read the article: "I've been led to believe that there's a good response for it"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that whenever a Republican claims "no recollection" the MSM finds it totally plausible, but if a Democrat says it, there some level of deception and obfuscation going on?

  • @Locutus

[Read the article: "I've been led to believe that there's a good response for it"]

    That was brilliant!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All this lying from the administration when there's been no crime? Hmmm... Maybe that's worth a little bit of fuss, huh? If this is all just a big waste of time, why are you bothering to post here? Methinks you doth protesteth too much. And Methinks you are also completely incapable of explaining in any sort of detail why you believe what you say.

  • @daleyrocks

[Read the article: Congressional Republicans suddenly discover the need for oversight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Jack Abramoff

    Scooter Libby

    Tom Delay

    Duke Cunningham

    David Safavian

    Bob Ney

    etc.

Jeez, the Democrats have had a sliver of a majority in Congress for less than three months. Let's see how long the list is at this time next year.

  • Seems to me that

[Read the article: The Edwards "scoop": Strike 2 for the Politico]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Tim was simply reporting that sources were saying that Edwards was suspending his campaign. If somebody can't tell the difference between that, and actually breaking the story like Politico did, then that person is an awfully dim bulb. The mistaken source belongs to Politico, not Tim Grieve.

I read Tim's piece before the announcement, and I definitely felt like the "news" that Edwards was suspending his campaign was "speculative."

  • The Chicken(hawk)s

    are coming home to roost!

And here at Salon, we have ringside seats! Pass the popcorn and bring on the subpoenas and hearings!

  • Something that bears repeating over and over again

[Read the article: Fred Hiatt and Iraq -- Together Forever]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I heard Marc Maron say this on the radio today, and as a proud liberal and a concerned citizen of this country, it’s really resonating with me:

"Anyone who continues to support this administration, this president, and this war effort, is fundamentally un-American."

That may sound strident or over-the-top, but it really makes sense. After everything I’ve read, seen, and heard since Bush took office, I can’t come to any other conclusion. This goes for every "pundit"--from Bill Kristol to Fred Hiatt--who’s been carrying water for, or performing as glorified cheerleaders for, or in some cases leading the hand of this administration over the last 5-6 years. Let’s put an end to the right-wing meme that liberals are the “blame-America-first-crowd."

We are the “blame-unAmericans-first-crowd,” and don’t let anyone tell you different.

  • I guarantee you

[Read the article: Coburn: U.S. attorneys scandal sort of like Anna Nicole Smith]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that there were some committee members who are such policy wonks that they have no idea who Anna Nicole Smith is, and therefore had no idea what Coburn was talking about!

  • Are you guys just a bunch of idiots?

[Read the article: Number of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Talking heads and pundits accuse Democrats of being the party of "loose morals" on a daily basis, and point out that the Republican party is the party of "family values." Tim's post is a rubuttal of stories like the one cited below by Media Matters:

    -------

In a column titled "The Second Commandment Republicans" in the March 15 edition of Time, columnist Joe Klein asserted that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA), former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), and former Massachusetts Gov.Mitt Romney (R) are "moderate candidates who live like liberals," citing the fact that they "have had nine marriages among them: Giuliani three, Gingrich three, McCain two and Romney one" as his only evidence. The leading Democratic candidates for president -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) -- have each been married once.

  • Incompetent? Who cares?!

[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Gonzales is LOYAL, that's what really matters, right?

  • Are inane posts like daleyrocks'

[Read the article: The most revealing three-minute YouTube clip ever]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

what passes for serious political argument on the right these days? It sure seems like it. They can no longer cover up the extent to which this administration is fundamentally un-American, so all they can do is argue with strawmen, joke around, mischaracterize what the Democrats are saying and trying to do, joke around some more, change the subject., etc

"It's Hard Out Here for an Authoritarian."

  • @Hardball Debra

[Read the article: The most revealing three-minute YouTube clip ever]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'll repeat what I wrote about daleyrocks' post.

Is this what passes for serious politicial argument on the right? Strawman arguments, sarcastic misrepresntations of what Democrats are saying and doing, and outright misrespresntation of facts.

This is all they have left on the right.Snide obfuscation and arrogant rancor.

  • And joe reminded of another aspect

[Read the article: The most revealing three-minute YouTube clip ever]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

of their empty, thoroughly insubstantial view: Projection. Always a heaping handful of projection.

  • @Rusty

[Read the article: The most revealing three-minute YouTube clip ever]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A new level of nonsense has just been acheived here at Salon. Rusty wants to equate illegal spying and wire-tapping to a legally obtained subpoena followed by legal testimony before Congress.

I am going to say this every day. This administration, and those who support it, are fundamentally un-American. Period.
