Who are you dating, Bill O'Reilly?

Or maybe the President? Jeez!

This is a textbook case of transference: In this case, he's transfering his self-loathing on to you. Don't let him! Dump him!!

He doesn't have the nads, or the self-awareness to examine himself and his own actions, so he has to lay it all on you instead. What a terd.

Transference isn't a tactic exclusive to right-wing bullies, unfortunately. I was in a nine-year relationship in which my girlfriend never stopped throwing my past in my face and she used it as a means for manipulation countless times. I stayed way too long because I was "in love." Don't make the same mistake.

Congratulations, indeed!

Cary is totally right. Your new family is now your highest priority. Due to new circumstances, it's necessary to cut your commitment short. But in this case, if your boss doesn't understand, that's her problem, not yours. Be happy!

Yeah, what he said....

Just posting to say I totally agree with what David said. It's really that clear, and that simple.

Jeez Louise!

There seems to be an endless number of Salon readers who have gargantuan chips on their shoulders (Harri whoever being a prime example). The new year is hardly one day old, and some of you have already begun 2006 just as you finished 2005--by finding fault in others just to make yourselves seem smart(er). Why not make a resolution to lighten up and get over yourselves. Self-absorbed, indeed!

Truth or Fiction?

I gotta say that I, like some other letter writers, don't really buy this story. Something about it just doesn't ring true. Or maybe several things. It kind of reads like it was written by a twelve year-old. Or maybe someone who has watched too many daytime soaps.

USC vs. Longhorns

As a Longhorn fan, I'm summing up the game this way: I'm a little nervous because if Texas wins, it will change my life. And if they lose, it won't. I became a fan during my freshman year back in 1981, and the Horns have more 1-loss seasons than I can remember. I know exactly what that feels like. And oddly enough, I'm a big SF Giants fan, so I know what losing in a manner like the Giants did to the Angels back in 2002. I'm a little sick of it, you might guees. So here's to a life-changing event tonght!!

Longhorns

Yesterday I wrote that if the Longhorns won, it would change my life. Well, given a little time to reflect, here is how it has changed my life so far: Instead of complaining that the Longhorns haven't won a national title in football since I was too young to remember, I will now complain about how crappy our graduation rate is, and how the players on teams like USC seem so much more well-spoken and better educated.

That being said, I completely agree that you can't pick a few plays out of a game and say that if one or two things happened differently, the final outcome would change. It just doesn't work that way.

Post hoc lunacy

Criticizing Pete Carroll for the 4th down call is just like criticizing Grady Little for not pulling Pedro against the Yankees, or Dusty Baker for pulling Russ Ortiz in game 6 of the world series. Coaches make lots of critical decisions, but at some point it's up to the players to get the job done. Last night the UT players did, and the USC players didn't. It's that simple.

"A bit"?

It's not just "a bit of hindsight bias," it's TOTAL hindsight bias. Pete Carroll threw everything AND the kitchen sink at Texas. In the end, it didn't work. If USC had stunted and blitzed every play like you guys think they should have, they would have been burned by big plays. The USC coaches had a month to study film and prepare. Given their personnel, the coaches devised a plan that suited them best. UT outplayed USC. Period.

Shameful Christian Fascism

Headline on the front page Austin American Statesman Friday morning:

(Governor) Perry: Add Intelligent Design to Classes

So now, just 36 hours after UT wins the big one, I go back to deep, intense shame for being a "Texan." Fuck this place. So this is going to be the defining issue in the Texas governor's race this year? Intelligent design? I am a christian, but what I see going on is shameful. I stopped going to church YEARS ago because I couldn't stomach being around such hypocrites. I'm not saying that I'm holy or better than anyone else--far from it. My feet are clay just like everyone else's. But here's the difference: I'm not going around saying I have some hotline to God while at the same time cheating and swindling honest people. Intelligent Design belongs in Sunday school. Why is that so hard to understand?

Christian Fascism is happening right now, people. The thing that really chaps my ass about it though, is MOST "republicans" aren't don't support Intelligent Design, and aren't happy about all this corruption, but they willingly tolerate it because of their core defining issue: Taxation. The rank and file Republicans really care about nothing other than keeping their tax rate as low as possible. All the other issues are just white noise. Screw education. Screw roads and infrastructure. Screw the environment. "Just keep my taxes low, goddammit." How very sad. God, I'm ashamed.....

ps--vote Democrat in 2006 and forever!!!
