Some actors do not act. Some actors give wonderful performances by just saying the words. Watch Paul Newman. Most of the time, he just says the words. Contrast this to Al Pacino, who always has to put something "on" the words. Both fine performers, and who can say who is the better actor? I think Al is a little over the top sometimes, but that's me.
Keanu may turn out to be a "say the words" sort of actor. I will rent this movie based on Stephanie's description of his performance, and because I liked Sandra Bullock in "Crash".
And on acting and crying? I learned that as soon as those tears leave your eyes, the audience loses the tension. If YOU cry, the audience doesn't have to. But if you keep choking those tears back, you break our hearts. Think of the best crying scenes you ever saw, you'll see what I mean.
I'm sorry, but Jennifer Aniston was the worst thing in a pretty good thriller. She was lifeless and boring and did nothing to explain why these 2 men might be taken with her.
Unfortunately, Jennifer Aniston is just not a Movie Star. She topped out being America's sweetheart on TV. And, also unfortunately, she is approaching 40 and in the Hollywood/youth market, she is getting to old to build her career in romantic leads. The Scarlett Johannsons and Natalie Portmans are nipping at her heels.
I like her even though she seems a little too needy for our attention, and it's possible that she can cash in her fame and lakability for a more interesting, smaller film career. I hope she does.
Nice one-you guys slay me. Happy April Fools, you nuts!
I suggest that your experiment in "Letters" to the "Editor" has failed. It has degenerated into a name calling group of 6th graders arguing about whether Superman can beat up Batman. It was entertaining at first, but now, well, it's kind of pathetic.
Please go back to a traditional format of choosing letters that have something to say about the PIECE and discarding those who address other readers. As a member for many years, I thought that Salon readers were a little more sophisticated and respectful of other views. Given a platform and a common enemy, (first the author of the piece, then the supporters and/or detractors of it), we see nit-picking, name-calling, complaining, bitching, insulting, whining and general nastiness.
I, for one, am tired of picking through all this garbage to find someone with something insightful to say. It's depressing...really.
Maher is a misogynist wanker, he always has been. I feel like I need a shower just watching him on the telly.
Irrelevant. It's early. :)

Good God. The insufferable Paglia on the irrevelant Madonna. They should both retire.
I am grateful for at least 2 things--one, that I don't own a television, as I sat with my jaw dropped at the crap I was reading about, and two, that I am not paid to watch it. I just don't think I could do it.
Heather's a good writer, (although I rarely read her since I don't watch), and her snarky reports make me feel like I need a shower, particularly after this report. I guess that's good...
