This was a lovely piece. Thanks to the author for sharing his/her experiences with us. I smiled all the way throught it.
I have to admit that I'm not sure if I'll see the movie. I generally enjoy Altman's work but I love listening to Prairie Home Companion & I'm a little unsure of having someone else's visual replace the ones in my head.
I have to say that so far Tony Snow is more entertaining that his predecessor, and I've blocked that guy's name right out of my mind.
I'm more interested in knowing why Matt Lauer even bothers to talk with her.
I've snipped a few pertinent paragraphs from the announcement off the AP wire:
The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved use of the vaccine, Gardasil, for use in girls and women ages 9 to 26. It works by preventing infection by four strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV, the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease.
Gardasil, manufactured by Merck & Co. Inc., protects against the two types of HPV responsible for about 70 percent of cervical cancer cases. The vaccine also blocks infection by two other strains responsible for 90 percent of genital wart cases.
The target age for receiving Gardasil is low because the vaccine works best when given to girls before they begin having sex and run the risk of HPV infection. The vaccine may not protect people already infected and may increase their risk of the kind of lesions that can lead to cervical cancer, the FDA has said.
I coudn't bear to read all the press on this event but I am curious to know if anyone in the administration used the phrase "turning point" about Zarqawi's death.
When there's a cure/vaccine for lung cancer will there be a decision not to implement it because it will just encourage smoking? What about the liver and drinking? Probably not, because with these people it's all about creating a fear of sex. They fear that their women won't be virgins, that their women will enjoy sex. They'd rather use as many tools as possible to make women fear sex. The far right has already proven that a woman's life is of little value when up against their (the fear mongers) fear of her having sex.
This guy doesn't regret the war or supporting it. His only regret is that it's taking so long. He clearly states he would have liked it if we'd gone in quickly and left the place a rubble heap as some sort of warning to the rest of the Middle East.
So according to Mr. Snow, the President's spokesperson is only competent to speak on events that have occurred since date of hire. History is not his responsibility. Very convenient.
Lots of good advice has been given,in addition to Cary's. I'll just add, get a roomate. Use the money you save on rent to pay off your debt.
I don't always agree with Cary's advice, but I generally enjoy reading it & understand his point, but this wedding moment that he advises is strange. Is he writing a TV movie script?
Give the brother a deadline to tell his fiance or you'll do it, and then follow through. He may be a great brother but he's clearly a lousy husband and his fiance should know ahead of time.
I had to double check that I'd clicked on The War Room. The post seemed more of the style I'd find on that pink blog (I can't remember the name). But I suppose if I stretch my imagination I can maybe see how this little missive on AC might fit here. Afer all, he supposedly is some sort of news reporter.
Since we're snarking on Anderson, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I recall seeing him on the Colbert Report a while ago. What struck me most about him was that when he smiles he completely loses any semblance of the required news person gravitas (if he has any to begin with). When he smiles he looks just like a little boy.
Go Bruce! I knew he was being interviewed but I couldn't stand to watch Soledad conduct the interview.
Another example of a performer being political: last Saturday night Garrison Keillor did a nice job of joking about Coulter and President Bush in his commentary on A Prarie Home Companion from Salt Lake City.
Since a couple letter writers have mentioned Patrick Smith's column on the 9-11 conspiracy theories, I thought I'd post a link for anyone interested.

Two questions for folks who believe:
1. What happened to the passengers removed from or not on the flights that didn't exist or were diverted (depending on your choice of theory)? Their families believe they are dead, so where are they if not dead?
2. Why was there gold under the Twin Towers? Where did it come from? Who put it there?
Pittsburgh has an h at the end of it.
A clever idea but the clip was *way* too long; it lost it's impact about halfway through. I think the reason is that there were only two musicals used and it became redundant.
Thank you, official G wrote: "What we want is someone who will cut through the BS of these whiny, pathetic losers who write in and simply tell them what they need to hear."
Uh, excuse me, but who is this "we" you are referring to? If you don't like Cary's column then don't read it. There are a lot of other advice giving folks in the papers and on the internet. You may find one or two that you agree with. In the meantime, don't speak for me. I read this column because I like the way Cary writes.
