Abortion is healthcare

"On the abortion issue, the White House has admitted is possible that would be covered in the bill, and he doesn't lie!

-- conversefive "

Abortion should be convered by insurance. It's healthcare for gods' sake. You people who whine about it are ridiculous. And I hate it when the Dems get mealymouthed about it.

Newt & death

As I recall, Newt also liked/likes to toss around the misleading "death tax" phrase.

Yes, Peeps1, there is a webpage where you can get the reality instead of the myths.

Jeff-work-$$

I don't know how much Jeff Lewis makes for the show itself, but no matter how much it is, he has to actually do something to keep the show. The unfairness of it all!

Gelatin

"First, you had to get two calves feet – scald them, take off the hair, slit them in two, and extract the fat from between the claws."

Last weekend I watched "Julie" in the movie "Julie & Julia" do just this as she tried to make aspic from Julia Child's cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking."

On another note, I've been eating Jell-O for years as my evening dessert. I get my sugar fix without loads of calories. But I'm going to try the version found at health food stores as another person mentioned earlier. If it really tastes better & is healthier then I'm all for it.

I also make my own chicken stock from chicken bones and yes it is very, very delicious when you get to the gelatenous stage. It takes time, but the flavor is wonderful.

book cover

I was sure someone had doctored that book cover, so I went to the Amazon link & it really is the cover of his new book. How embarrassing for him.

"FUD"

I think I learned about the concept of FUD on an NPR piece recently. When coroprations want to discredit an idea they begin a PR campaign to instill FUD: fear, uncertainty & doubt.

The Republicans use this concept very well. They don't like an idea (meaning anything a Democrat proposes) and they begin the FUD campaign. People won't accept a new idea if they are filled with fear, uncertainty, & doubt. The problem is trying to counteract this very big campaign that comes from many directions. On top of all that the right-wing liars tell these people that anyone claiming differently is lying.

bosses

Being part of the Hoi Polloi I know nothing of this woman or her world, but how does she compare to Jeff on Flipping Out as a boss?

Vile trolls are alive & well

If you read the letters following each of the many Kennedy pieces on Salon today, you'll see that the trolls were just waiting to be first in line.

Bob

Not true, Bob the carpenter. I saw many posts from folks saying RIP for Novak. And people don't always go to jail for killing someone in a car accident, it's not just the Kennedys. I seem to recall that Laura Bush never spent time in jail. And on the not rich side of the population, I have a former brother-in-law who killed his wife (my sister) in a DUI crash. He never spent a day in jail and went on to lead a worthless life neglecting himself and his children. At least Ted Kennedy did something useful and helpful with his life.

bar fights

Fighting fueled by alcohol and testosterone is not a good idea.

I enjoyed the movie.

I saw it this afternoon and enjoyed it. It's not about Woodstock really, imo. It's about the family and Woodstock is the setting, the backdrop, or whatever it would be called. I haven't read the book so I can't compare, but Tiber's homosexuality is underplayed even when they're dealing with it. There is one small moment where Stonewall is mentioned but you'd miss it if you weren't paying attention. Now that I think about it, Martin's portrayal of Tiber was bland. But maybe being surrounded by the other larger characters made up for it.

And based on the previews, it looks like the Coen brothers have another good one coming out soon. At least I hope so. "Burn After Reading" was awful.

No such thing as bad publicity

I can't decide what to do. I either have to stop reading the NYTimes or Salon. Or maybe read the Times a few days late, that way I won't feel like I'm rereading a story when Salon rehashes it a few days later.

Come on, this parent writing about kids thing is pretty commmon. Others have already pointed out the Salon regulars who do it. Go to any bookstore and you'll find it. I'm not sure why this one is such a big deal....oh, now I get it. Myerson's book is about to be released in the US so it's really just publicity.

Playbook

All the usual suspects, both in the RW media and here in the Salon letters arena, spouting the usual drivel. It's all part of their playbook. They will attack anything and everything the President does. They will attack anything and everything the Democratic members of the Congress do. It's how they work.
