Thanks for the article, Farhad.
Why does Col. Boylan misuse the word "vice?" There are two examples of it in this piece. Doesn't he mean to use "versus?" Maybe he's just mangling the "vice versa" phrase, which would be incorrect in those sentences anyway. I normally presume that someone in PR has a good grasp of the Enlish language. Or is there some use of "vice" that I'm not familiar with (which is entirely possible).
I think we need Bebop-o's artistic input here.
No Child Left Behind
My general policy (though I did vere from it for LoTR) is that I don't see movies based on books that I love. I'm always disappointed. LoTR was an exception because it had been 30 years since I read the series and couldn't remember a lot of the details.
On the other hand, there are movies I enjoyed that have gotten me to read books they were based on. In those cases I don't fault the movie as being less than the book, which they usually are.
BTW, I agree with the person who mentioned The Prince of Tides, though maybe not the "worst" adaptation. I think that was one of the last times I saw a movie based on a book that I love (excellent book! wretched movie).
I'm staying far away from The Kite Runner movie because I loved that book so much.
The Bridges of Madison County: wretched movie & a wretched book!
I find it interesting that a Libertarian is so strongly anti-choice. It's contradictory to the Libertarian philosophy of individual rights & keeping the government out of the lives of citizens.

In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, HR 1094.I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.
I have also authored HR 1095, which prevents federal funds to be used for so-called “population control.”
I love that these authors delude themselves into believing people would actually pay for their books. The only reason they have good sales numbers is because of the wheeling & dealing their publisher does. They give the books away.
We need more, better Democrats.
The LW says " I felt dumped and betrayed." Maybe the friend felt that same way when the LW got a job and was no longer available for the morning coffee routine. But maybe, also, the friend found it easier to pick up and move on to get what she needs.

That is what I would have expected (AMA's position against torture), but if so, then where are "they" getting these doctors who supposedly oversee waterboarding to make sure it's safe?
The AMA (American Medical Association) is not a regulatory organization. Docs don't have to belong or adhere to the AMA positions. Sadly, there will always be humans in all professions, including medical doctors, who have extreme views.
With only a quick glance at the photo & title I thought the article was about a contest to find the next new OC Housewife!
Almost, but not quite. I enjoyed the piece.
Good point, Catherine. Another point is that the definition of feminism has changed with time, so that's another reason you can't apply the term to Neanderthals. Not to mention that maybe it was common practice for women to join in the hunts.
When I was young, in the 70s, a feminist was simply a person who believed women should have the same legal rights as men. Apparently the definition has now become something murky and even sinister, depending upon who you ask.
Uh, what's the point here? And I don't remember you doing this last year. I suppose I ignored it then.
The MSNBC morning crew (Joe in the Morning) also played the clip and had a good time mocking them. David Schuster particularly enjoyed it. Joe S. wasn't there this morning.
I fully support the WGA in their efforts for a fair share. I wish more Americans had the opportunity to join unions.
BTW, I have to admit that I don't have any problem with shows in reruns or those that will be going into reruns. I watch way too much TV as it is. I think I'll read more books for a while.
That's one heck of a teaser the publisher put out. Too bad the book won't be out for 6 months; everyone will have forgotten by then.
At $75 per person I think the LW can easily combine her/his inclication for real gifts and the receiver's inclication for gift cards. I do this regularly. A book with a gift card inside, a DVD or CD or some other inexpensive gift along with a gift card. Best of both worlds. My rels (we draw names, too, but limit to $50) get DVDs from me of movies they'd never heard of or never would have watched. Then I add in a gift card that they can spend on whatever they like. One inexpensive, but never asked for gift was one of those 20Q games. It was a huge hit last year. We spent hours passing it around.
My attitude is that it's parents and spouses/significant others who give people big gifts or the thing they really, really, want. More distant relatives can have more fun with the holiday.
I'm not going to read the site but wondered, do they tell how these teenagers support themselves and their babies?
