I'm also a Credit Union person all the way. What a great institution. The only problem in my small city is that they only have 3 ATMs and two are locked inside buildings after hours. So I use other ATMS once in a while, but mostly I try to plan ahead.
My favorite bank outrage story concerns a Chase branch right next to my work place. On payday I would get cash from their ATM which only spit out $20s. I wanted $5 & $10 for the week ahead to make some payments/tips, etc. So I'd get the cash from the ATM, willingly paying the $1 fee for the convenience, then go into branch and ask a teller to break the $20 for me. One day I did this & the teller asked if I had an account with them. No, I didn't. She said she couldn't break my $20. I laughed. She was serious. Apparently it was a concern about funny money. I told her I got the money from the branch ATM right outside her window. It didn't matter; she wasn't allowed exchange cash for cash unless I was an account holder.
Yes, LW, you have to be the bigger person, especially at your own wedding. In fact, you should always aim to be the bigger/better person.
Cary's response is very true to my feelings. I understand the desire to make the day perfect. We are infected since childhood with this idea of making the wedding day "perfect." But as many have said, there is no such thing. Strive toward a good life and good family relations.
You may not like or trust your new future sister-in-law, but she is young and has aspirations to a good life too. Be a role model .
I've read that Prez didn't like this bill because: 1) it taxed cigs, 2) it was socialized medicine, 3) it was too much money, he would have accepted a 5 billion increase. I wonder which reason they'll give today.
Last Saturday I was stuck in a car repair shop waiting room with FOX on the TV. During their Bulls & Bears show they discussed the SCHIP program. The discussion immediately turned into "why should we fund the health care of illegal children." That was all that it was to them, illegals immigrants stealing from us.
I see mention of the Dove ads from time-to-time, but I've never seen on. And I watch a lot of TV. They must not be spreading the word all that well.
that should read "I've never seen one."
I'm reminded of something Rachel Maddow said on Countdown earlier this week, "we talk radio hosts deal in extremes."
The truth will come out soon enough. As someone mentioned, Marla must be about 7 now. She's going to let the truth out eventually to one of her friends, classmates, etc.
I remember reading about this several months ago. Of course, that was before Fred officially entered the race. It was back when Chris Matthews and friends were extolling the manly virtues of Fred (maybe they still do; I stopped paying attention). More importantly, it was on blogs and before ABC news decided to bring it up.
Black & white, in the hands of a pro, is always more beautiful, more haunting than color. Anton is a pro at creating beautiful imagery. I have no particular interest in Joy Division, but I'll see this movie if it comes to my town just for the visuals described in the review.
Have you ever gone inside a Pottery Barn for Kids store? They clearly gender identify the toys with color. Pink stoves & refrigerators, etc. This is nothing new.
Human shield, they say? Does anyone remember Representative Tom Reynolds (R NY-26 ) having a press conference in his home district just about one year ago that attracted lots of press attention? It was during the Mark Foley scandal with the House pages. News got out that Reynolds knew about this and did nothing. His chief of staff, Kirk Fordham, had worked as Foley’s CoS for 10years and even returned to Foley’s office to assist him after the news broke. Reynolds got a lot of heat and he finally had to hold a press conference (he was running for re-election). He surrounded himself with the children of his staff and supporters as a true human shield.
Link to Albany Times-Union that has the video (with kids) of the press conference.

One of the differences between the Republicans and Democrats is the question each would ask after hearing the story of this family.
Repubs: Why didn't she get a job with health insurance?
Dems: Why didn't her employer offer health insurance?
Unlike Thrasher, some of us care about the entire human spectrum, whether we are that particular demographic or not.
Thanks for your work, Pam.
Everytime I hear waterboarding described, my breath shortens, as if I have trouble breathing. The mere thought of it does the trick for me.
I've always been confused when someones says "it makes you feel like you're drowning." It seems to me that the person subjected to this treatment IS drowning, but the torturer stops prior to death. If water is poured into your mouth & you can't breath, you're drowning. I suppose that technically one doesn't drown until water enters the lungs, but I would guess that it does for some who undergo this torture.
I hope that they do something more in-depth with the Aunts on Pushing Daisies. They are intriguing characters played by two very fine actresses. Aunt Vivian needs to have a song!
I enjoy the show, but have to agree with one LW who found the narration too much.
