Two thoughts:
1. His wife already knows so why worry about causing her more harm. He's already caused it all and continues to do so. She knows what he's like and chooses to put up with it.
2. For those who think this is no big deal. He's the student's Thesis Advisor. That's similar to being her boss, but even more important because without him she won't graduate. He has power over her advancement. That's what makes this unethical. Most colleges/universities have policies against this behavior. Some even had staff/faculty who function as advocates that students can go to for advice and reporting issues.
Wow, I didn't know that Lou Dobbs talked about anything other than immigration. That's all I hear him talking about when I tuned into his show. Good to know that he does have other interests.
This is what I love from Cary. Thanks.
Also, a note to the LW. Think of it as putting up with/letting it go for the woman you love.
I saw previews for this in the theater a few weeks ago & decided I'd pass on it, but this review has changed my mind. Thanks (I hope).
Maybe I'm being naive but I don't think the American people (minus the 28% or whatever it is today) will tolerate a war with Iran on top of what's going on now. We were hoodwinked into Iraq and have lost. All the same noises are coming from the administration & their pundit supporters about Iran. We, the people, may not be able to stop the administration from launching it, but the public outcry will finally happen & Repubs will be voted out en masse, along with any war loving Dems/Indys.
An unnerved Tim Brown (any relation to Tina?) asked:
Does Greenwald have permission to upload his columns himself without first having them reviewed by Salon's editors?
Short answer: Yes, he does.
It sounds like you've learned of Glenn's blog through Salon, so I'll point to a post in his old space "Unclaimed Territory" where he explains his move to Salon.
http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2007/02/blog-news.html
I've pasted in a pertinent paragraph from Glenn at that time:
The first term I negotiated with Salon was complete editorial freedom -- no editorial interventions, no topic "assignments," and no content, length or topic restrictions. I can post when and how frequently I want, and I have access to post 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and posting is immediate. In essence, Salon wants to publish this blog, not some modified or constrained version, and so I have exactly the same freedom to post there that I have here.
As for your concern about the "self-promotion", he's telling us this information because he knows that a lot of us want to know. We've been waiting for this book. Many have asked about pre-ordering and he asked that we wait for this announcement for reasons explained. He's not "telling" anyone to either buy or read his book, but clearly people who read his blog are interested in his writing, so he's informing us. He also tells us when he's going to be on a radio or TV program, and we're happy he does.
As much as I tend to dislike Conservatives, and find them to be hypocrites, to deride them based on whether or not their CHILDREN serve in the military is disingenuous (and is a non-sequitur at best). Romney's kids are adults. They make their own decisions about whether or not to join the military. Period. It is not a reflection on the parents either way.
Sure it is. The parents didn't raise their kids right if the kids aren't living up to parents' propoganda. Romney raised his children to live up to the Mormon expectation of a 2 year mission. Where's the result of an expectation to support and defend one's country? They expect their kids to go to college...most do. Etc, etc.
Of course, we know that most republicans only have an expectation that other people's children will join the military during war. Therein lies the hypocrisy.
I haven't seen a transcript of Digby's speech yet, but I have read a number of requests for one on various websites, so I suspect it will come. She only gave the speech this week (possibly yesterday, I'm not certain). You might pop over to her website http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/ to ask about it.
I have to admit that I never gave Digby's gender much thought. I will say that that was one hell of a good speech she gave.
Let her quit, or at the very least take a break.
If she regrets it, then she regrets it. Life is full of learning experiences. One of the big ones is that parents can't always force their kids to learn from their (the parents') experiences. Kids have to learn it new for themselves in every generation. And be thankful that this one isn't doing her any harm (as in drugs, etc).
She's an A student & she's enjoying the singing. How much can you expect from a kid. Success comes from the internal drive & ambition of the person in question, not the parent.
I got an email from Amazon saying they'd shipped my order out on Saturday, so it should arrive soon.
I saw the fawning ick from Matthews yesterday when he talked about Coulter being on his show. He said he may have her on the entire hour. I interpreted his "she sells books" remarks as "she increases my ratings".
I've been trying to figure out why Coulter is on the media binge this week. Did she have a new book out (god help us)? But then a commenter here mentioned that her latest book has just been released in paperback & it all made sense. Thank you for that info.
