When the baseball players went on strike in 1981, I was too young to really understand what was going on. However, by the 1994 strike, the sport I grew up loving seemed like one big grabfest and the strike a clear "f-you" to fans. How little it's changed in 13 years.
While the Mitchell report wouldn't stand up to most judicial evidence requirements, it did shed light on the collective blind eye turned to all kinds of drug use in baseball. I'm sure just as many people knew Pete Rose was gambilng. I thought Clemens was a fantastic guy when he came into the league. His recent behavior does more to make him look guilty than trying on the gloves did for OJ.
Oh and Mike, not to rub it in, but OSU has less than 2 min to close a 17 point gap....not saying they can't, but.....
When I heard that Knight quit with games left to play, the first thing I thought was "he'd choke a player for that". I get that he's "tired". Heck, I'm tired most days too. My understanding is that there is a deal in place for his son to be his successor. Why quit now? And with 10 games left? Ten? He's so tired he can't show up and be coach of record for 10 more nights? It's no big effort to actually let his son do the coaching and Bob hang out while giving his players (and fans, and check-writing alumni who are actually paying his salary) the impression that he's still involved.
But, just like Belichick, Bobby runs out early, not thinking of anyone but himself. And "the young people" are the ones who are said to not have respect these days.....whatever.
And did anyone REALLY expect Bob Knight to fish, play golf and not do anything self-serving in his retirement? Twenty-three days ago, he quit on his team during the season. They should have thrown chairs at him.
"One reason wives can't enjoy sex, Treat says, is that they had too much of it before they got married. "I've not met one woman who had sex before marriage who was not ashamed of it," Treat writes."
Hi Wendy, nice to meet you. My name is marquisem. I had premarital sex: some was good, some was bad, some was REALLY good, some was REALLY bad, but I don't regret any of it and I'm not ashamed of it.
I suppose my problem was that I had a moderate amount of it (I never dreamed I'd get married at 23) and not "too much of it". Love the article....
My Senior year of high school, nearly EVERYONE went to prom by themselves. That way, no one was tied to a date all night long and we seniors could celebrate one of the last times we'd all be together. I had so much more fun that night than my Junior year when I dragged a friend who really didn't want to be there.
SATC is about a group of professional *thirtysomething* women. Not 14 year olds, not 20 year olds out on their own as they experience college life. If a 14 year old was watching it (allowed to do so by WHOM?), she shouldn't have been. It's TV-MA for a reason. Jiminy Christmas.
With the ratings. In about a month, I flew Southwest, Northwest and American. Southwest did have a problem on my flight home and I understood what was going on every step of the way. I left my jacket on the plane at my destination and a SW employee came to baggage claim with it. Considering that my car, house and desk keys were in it, I was VERY glad to have it back.
None of my Northwest flights left on time, which was good for me because I had several connections and one on time takeoff would have had me stranded. The gate employees acted like it was "business as usual" and no big deal that nothing was leaving on time. I missed eating on the days I traveled with them because I was trying to be at the gate on time. Would that they were as concerned about getting me to my destination.
American cancelled my flight out and put me on one 2 hours later. No one bothered to communicate this to me, so when I checked in online, I was confused to see myself on 4 flights. My company's travel department was equally as disinterested. Here too, we had unexplained delays, a terminal change in DFW and again, an on time takeoff would have stranded me.
Southwest--where you have to pick out a seat--got planes turned around very quickly. NW and AA, where you have a seat you should easily be able to get to, took forever. Completely counterintuitive except that SW is trying to get you somewhere in a hurry and no one else is.
She got pregnant after a one night stand. So I'm guessing condoms weren't a part of her evening. Mary, it's 2008, not 1978. While I suppose I'm happy for you that you didn't end up with anything other than a child, please remember this when you give your son "the sex talk". STD's are on the increase because our children have been listening to wildly inaccurate "abstinence education". Please please please do not add to that by willfully not protecting yourself.
To buy the book to see why you didn't use a condom. Drunk, too involved, he said he was clean, all reasons that are utter crap. Yes birth control fails. But instead of wringing our hands, we should demand BETTER.
I'm glad you (apparently) live a charmed life. What I don't think is that we should all be praising you for it. I totally agree with the poster who said that if your skin were darker, you wouldn't have been interviewed (or published).
