@Missuri Dave

6/4 was not a "people's uprising for freedom and democracy". You don't understand what it was about, but that puts you into the same group as 99% of Americans, and 50% (or so) of Chinese.

I think your attacks on Google are sort of ignorant of the way the world works. This too, is a very complicated issue.

I would like to leave you with this though. There wee several "tank man" (as you called it). There was the man who stood in front of the tank. There was also the man driving the tank and the man commanding the driver. The tank crew made a decision they did not want to kill a human who happened to be foolishly standing in front of a tank. They put their humanity above their mission. So they did a very Chinese thing and tried to solve their problem with an expedient solution. They turned the tank, trying to drive around the man. Because they turned the tank, they were executed.

[I don't remember if just the driver was executed or the tank commander or both]

Unfortunately, China's problems cannot be solved by gestures and expedient solutions. These problems are systematic, culturally ingrained, and highly complex. By labeling the 6/4 student demonstration a democracy movement, you make these problems seem trite. By cursing the Western companies that do business in China, you are cursing the agents of change.

@khengsta

+1 for you. But to answer your question...very simply...China is seem as more of a threat across the American political spectrum. Which is really stupid. We should consider them a problematic life partner.

We always see it through our own glasses

I hate stories like this about 6/4. Nostalgic and incomplete.

6/4 protesters were not pro-democracy protesters. It was not a pro-democracy demonstration.

I do not say this to undermine the accomplishments of those students (and the vastly more numerous workers and common people who supported the students). I do not say this to diminish the significance of the massacre. On the contrary, I believe that understanding the truth does honor to those who have died.

As for the protectors now... well... some of them are exiled around the world. But the vast majority of the student protesters are now managers and leaders in China's foreign invested companies. And they are rich.

To those who are afraid to revisit the show...

...because they are afraid it will not live up to your memories...take heart.

The show still holds up. Its still fun. Its still great.

However, if you saw it when you were really young (I watched it when I was 5 - 7 years old, in 1975-1977, before Star Wars), you will be shocked...James T. tries to seduce everyone. My Japanese wife saw ST:TOS for the first time a few months ago. She pointed out that the Captain is very bi and very good looking.

@MerelyMortalMale

#1. Your title "ashkeNAZI..." is racist and insulting. Ashkenazi is a racial sub-type of Jew. By mixing this up with the world NAZI, you are suggesting *I* am a NAZI because of my race. So, right away, I think you are a stupid pathetic idiot; it is in this light that I read the rest of your post.

#2 "'Bombers'? You mean the people willing to die for their freedom and land,"

By this you show that, in your opinion, if someone is fighting for their land, they should not be labeled "terrorists" even if they target civilians. Wow. This line of reasoning sounds rather morally incompetent.

#3 "And Sderot? It''s an Israeli town built upon a stolen Arab village...one which has ample shelters."

This exemplifies an argument you and others make that Israel's response was disproportionate. But what is interesting is that you again show that you feel it is ok to target civilians, and you are also showing that, as the Israelis are materially better-off (by having bomb-shelters), its not a big deal to spread terror by lobbing bombs.

#4"despite Englanders somehow maintaining decorum during the bombings of London..."

Idiot.

#5" Israel was created on land already occupied by Arabs. If that's okay,...What was wrong with Aryans taking whatever Jewish property...?"

Israel was created on a land that was occupied by Arabs and Jews. I don't need to read a history book to know this fact. My family moved to Israel in 1890, after they were kicked out of Ukrain during the pogroms. Conflict between Jews and Arabs existed in Palestine for nearly 50 years before the creation of the Israeli state and during a time that the territory was owned by England. Yet somehow you say this was a land that was stolen. This is something I hate about you ignorant non-Arab Israel bashers...you don't know the history and yet you talk shite.

BTW. The United States didn't give substantial aid to Israel until near the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur war. The Arab states around Israel received far more aid from the Soviet Union. And quite a few autocratic, non-democratic Muslim countries receive much more aid than Israel. How come you don't complain about that?

#6 Last of all..."I also suspect antisemitism will spread. You can't call yourself the "Jewish State" and not have the world view your acts as reflecting Judaism."

So let me ask...do the actions of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia,, Malasia, etc ... reflect on Islam? Because if you you think that the actions of Israel reflect on Jews, then you are already anti-semitic.
