I always assume that Shooter is just off his meds again. Who even cares what he means?

    Hint: Even HE doesn’t know!

    That’s great news!

Does that mean we won’t have to hear Dubya say “Nu Ku Lar” again?

Seriously, I agree that the pressure needs to be maintained. I would sure like to watch the upcoming show as described on dailykos.

It’s become so hackneyed and stale…

    1. Bombastic and phony moralistic blowhard builds political career partially on opression of others who openly declare their sexuality.

    2. Blowhard passively engages repression of his personal, kindred sexual orientation.

    3. Blowhard’s inner compulsion drives periodic expression of that orientation in clandestine, sometimes illegal, venues.

    4. Blowhard frantically attempts to supress revelation when exposure becomes imminent.

    5. Blowhard stages press appearance and blames the press when finally exposed.

    6. Blowhard’s imminent resignation is intimated under pressure from fearful kindred, preening blowhards.

That “deer in the headlights” photo of Mitch McConnell in another Salon story about “this matter” illustrates point number 6 better than any description ever could.

And, of course, the White House just wants the matter "to be resolved quickly."

This particular “matter” will be “resolved” in about half an hour in another pitiful press conference and the remaining blowhards will breathe an audible sigh of relief, until the next script is submitted to the public.

Pass me a barf bag please….

Re: Ron Suskind on the Authoritarian Mind

“The aide* said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do." * Widely believed to be Karl Rove. Or Lex Luthor.)

"[C]reating other new realities" certainly makes it child's play to hold two (or more) "blatantly contradictory ideas" in one's Authoritarian mind, simultaneously.

    Scary, isn’t it?

Despite the untenable posture of our current military posture regarding potential deployments elsewhere (reality), it certainly appears they are about to create yet another “new reality”. With all of the recent talk (eerily like the run up to the Iraq invasion) about “Bomb, bomb, bomb, - bomb, bomb Iran”, it seems clear what’s looming over the horizon. And all of us reality based DFH’s will be left, once again, studying what they’ve now done.

Sowell and Clarence Thomas HAVE met. It’s been reported that they are both charter members of a newly formed Contract Bridge Club.

Interviews with Sowell and other members at recent gatherings revealed the following:

Activity consists of round robin tournament style play combined with social kibitzing and discussions of conservative philosophy. The membership teams meet alternatively every Thursday night at the home of Vice President Cheney, entering via the back door.

    The attendees consist, alternatively, of:

Thomas Sowell paired with Clarence Thomas, versus

Ward Conerley, paired with ArmStrom (sic) Williams

The teams for the alternating Thursday are:

Alan Keyes paired with Michael (hey, the homeless need work too!) Steele, versus

Joe Watkins, paired with a partner TBD.

Effectiveness of the second group has been temporarily handicapped pending determination of a replacement for Claude (hey, that was my twin brother!) Allen to partner with Joe Watkins. Rod Paige, Larry Elder, and Ken Blackwell are rotating in to “audition” for the vacant spot.

Contract Bridge was chosen over Bid Whist because, despite it’s longer history as a game, “too many black folks play Bid Whist”. Additionally, indulging in Contract Bridge represents real symbolic progress for blacks since it allows the players to participate as bidders in an auction, as opposed to having been the object of bidders at past auctions. It’s the club’s firm conviction that progress already made gets short shrift in favor of too much ineffective whining by current black activists.

The team of Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas (often affectionately referred to by the group as “Tom Squared”) is the current tournament leader. They are frequently accused of cheating, to which they have been noted to respond with cute and knowing “avuncular” winks.

Angela McGlowan and Debra Dickerson serve refreshments when not engaging in covert banter with Clarence (Coke please, pubic hair optional, heh, heh) Thomas. There is also much discussion about the unequivocal support they've received from white spouses (current and former). Debra, who is now unmarried, does a lot of stressing about how hard it is to manage “black” kids who grow up looking “so white”. It’s all great fun.

When asked why they must enter through the back door, Sowell bristled at the question before quizzically answering:

“I asked Mr. Cheney about that and he said that he and his staff thought that was the best access arrangement, minimizing security concerns, for the Club and his household. When I failed to see his logic, the Vice President reminded me of one of my better known quotes:

‘The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best’. I was then forced to admit that I couldn’t counter that logic”
