[Read the article: Keith Olbermann: Then and now]

I've been an avid Obama supporter since the beginning of the campaign. I first donated to his campaign on June 29th of last year. I've been following the political news closely since August of last year.

I was very disappointed in Obama's FISA reversal. So I went to his website to say so. I sent a message through the site and posted it on a blog--and the responses on the blog were NASTY. One person disregarded what I said about being a longtime supporter and tried to teach me how to use the site ("Go to the Action tab, and select Contact Us"), and that was the most civil response I got. The rest said things like "Don't take the bait," "OBAMA is trying to PROTECT the AMERICAN PEOPLE" (seriously), and "Why don't you write your senators instead of posting here?" (I live in Connecticut, so between Dodd and Lieberman and the bill having already passed the House, there wasn't much to say, but I made a pair of phone calls to their offices anyway.)

I was absolutely shocked at the largely hostile responses I got on the blogs. I used to bristle at references to Obama's cult-like following, but apparently anyone on those blogs who disagrees with Our Leader's Brilliant plan to Protect Us and/or Get Elected is automatically labeled a troll. Especially if they threaten to stop donating, as I did. (They solidified my intention to do so.)

I sincerely hope Obama joins the filibuster, even if he only does it to fight the amnesty provision. If he doesn't, he can count out my donations. He better not forget that people like me made him, and we can break him too. I don't mind a drift toward the center on other things, but preserving the Constitution and fighting Big Brother are probably the two most important issues of the past seven-and-a-half years.

  • To SCOTUS: Not cool, guys.`

[Read the article: Supreme Court rules "millionaire's amendment" unconstitutional]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And that's basically all I have to say on the matter, as I am not a Supreme Court justice but a lowly citizen who isn't a millionaire (yet).

  • You know what's immature?

[Read the article: Why progressives should keep organizing on MyBarackObama.com ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'll tell you what's immature. Promising to filibuster any bill that allows this kind of Constitutional violation, and then not filibustering it only six months later. That's immature.

You know what else is immature? Telling people that they have no right to make their own political decisions. This is America. I can do whatever I want. And I want to make sure the candidate I've supported for over a year now (my first donation was in June 2007) gets the message. I've cut off the donation spigot, something I have every right to do. It's my money and I'm not going to give it to someone who sells out the Constitution for a stupid political calculation.

And by the way, this isn't about "running to the center." I don't care about public financing. I don't give a crap about the faith-based initiatives, or his support for the gun rights decision (if they're going to take away our other rights, then the Second Amendment is all the more important), or even his stance on the death penalty thing (I disagree, but that's a matter of personal opinion). This isn't about the political spectrum, it's about the Constitution and the rule of law. This country cannot survive if the government is going to openly ignore the founding document, and neither Obama nor any of the other cowards in Congress who passed this travesty of a bill had any right to do so.

You run to the center with those other things I mentioned, not by undermining the Constitution. FISA was the thing Barack was supposed to stand up and fight against. He didn't, so his punishment is to run his campaign without my financial contributions.

  • I Beg to Differ, Laura

"And let's not forget that President Bush kept the American people safe."

EXCUSE ME?!! For once, I think Rudy Giuliani is needed! Come on Rudy, remind Laura what she, and apparently everyone who still votes Republican, has forgotten!

Rudy: "9/11, nine eleven. 9-11 September Eleventh Tuesday the Eleventh of September 2001 nine-eleven!!!"

Exactly, Rudy. George W. Bush was too stupid and lazy to stop 9/11 from happening, even though his administration was warned time and again, beginning with the very first meeting Condi had as National Security Advisor with Clinton's NatSec Advisor, Sandy Berger. In that meeting, Berger told Condi that al Qaeda would represent a significant threat and that combatting them would occupy large quantities of her time. And let's not forget that classic memo from August of 2001, entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside United States."

Dubya didn't keep us safe. He abdicated his responsibility to protect the American people for the better part of a year, and only after disaster struck did he do anything.

You'd think that after seven and a half years, I'd be used to their tendency to blatantly ignore even the most patently obvious facts. But it still makes my blood boil.

  • Oh, my mistake.

[Read the article: Welcome to John McCain's party]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I just realized Laura has to have been talking about the elder President Bush. My mistake.

At least, I assume that's what she meant. No one could be stupid enough to say that about Dubya, could they?

  • Certainty = Fundamentalism

[Read the article: A nation of conspiracy theorists can't be wrong ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr. Bayard and Mr. Thompson have the same certainty about their beliefs as those they are repudiating. Fundamentalism in any form is abhorrent. I prefer to operate with open-mindedness and healthy skepticism.

  • If this keeps up, McCain is history.

His debate performance was mediocre at best. A clear victory for Obama, who looked presidential and more often answered the question asked. The post-debate polls look good, so the current polling trends are likely to continue.
