About time.....
[Read the article: And Salon's honorary Oscar goes to...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Baldwin is without question the one actor whose name should be prominently above the title of everything he's in - that way, I wouldn't miss any of his incredible work.
Does anyone know of any actor that can touch him in his ability to succeed at both drama AND comedy? I mean, as funny as he can be, he's a terrific dramatic actor as well - so good, you forget his hilarious comedic turns and believe his serious side. (Unlike, say, Jim Carrey, who you can never take seriously as an actor [and whom you cannot take at all anymore as a comedian]}
Is there anyone else like this guy?

The dying of the light
[Read the article: Terrible hatred and anger on the left]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The outrageous statements of the right's loudest voices (Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly) are never questioned or truly criticized in the mainstream media, Back in the seventies, these hateful and moronic voices would be marginalized by a fourth estate that was independent and fiercely committed to challenging the government. Now, however, with every mainstream media outlet owned by the same corporations that brought you the war, this president and tax cuts for the rich, there is little hope that any truth other than a manufactured one will be heard.
The regulations of the FCC that kept us from this nightmare were abolished under Reagan. That's right - intelligent people foresaw this conglomeration of the press by powerful interests and drafted laws to stop it. But that was then. This is now. Rage, rage.

Thanks anyway, Bill...
[Read the article: Say it loud: I'm elite and proud!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Personally, I would've laughed much harder had Maher not been on the bandwagon of those who thought the unprovoked war on Iraq was a good idea.
It is time to say it: If you were so detached from reality that you supported the Iraq war at any time, you should step back and let the smart people drive. And comment. And write. And, most importantly, lead.

Why are there so few
[Read the article: The Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch frauds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...journalists with the courage of Mr. Greenwald? His accurate, depressing, foreboding and damning assessment of America's media only omits one obvious element -- that monied interests have corrupted our lives forever.

The Paucity of Hope
[Read the article: Make room for Daddy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]None of the Republican candidates (and, for my money, none of the Democratic ones) offer a true vision of leadership at a time when America is desperate for a leader.
None of these men (and, in the case of Democrats, the one woman) stand above the heads and shoulders of Americans as a giant among the rest of us. America will continue its slow decline to inconsequential-ness so long as average men or women lead it.

Licensure
[Read the article: Why I won't stay silent anymore]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I, too, am apparently on the wrong side of this thing; most of the posts here are rabidly pro-"life" and, I fear, have misread the article and completely misunderstood the real issue. But it seems to me that there's a defining issue here that seems to be missed by many who line up on one side or the other of this thing, and it's this:
The technicians who perform these procedures are physicians. Every doctor in this country is licensed by the state he or she lives in. Presumably (and hopefully) the various Boards and Committees that bestow licensure on these Doctors have certified that the licensee's judgement is to be respected and trusted. Since when do we allow the judgement of lay people (like the Supremes) to overcome the judgement of scientists?
Since the rise to power of people that believe in an invisible man in the sky, I guess. Let's hope that someone's reading of a story written in the second century and repeatedly copied over centuries by increasingly mischevious scribes doesn't include a ban on open heart surgery.

Thank you
[Read the article: Democrats bear responsibility for restoring habeas corpus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That's all. Thank you, Mr. Greenwald. From your lips to the ears of the electorate.

Wishes
[Read the article: Comey's testimony raises new and vital questions about the NSA scandal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mr. Greenwald's keen eye for what is truly important in the going-ons of our government reinforces the sense I keep having that my country has left its orbit and is spinning away, careening closer and closer to some larger and nefarious end. If only we had some medium for getting this type of information out to the rest of the citizenry.......if only there was, I don't know, some sort of estate after the third one that would watch our government and use its power to right a listing ship of state......

Please Stop
[Read the article: Attacks on civilians, torture and lawless detentions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Every word G.G. writes further punctures the American Idol/Paris Hilton bubble that we live in.

Upsetting...
[Read the article: Michelle Malkin's hate sites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...that more people do not read Mr. Greenwald. It cannot be said enough - thank whatever cosmic muffin you worship that this guy is on the planet and posts his insightful commentary on the state of journalism in this country.

This has been said before and
[Read the article: Democrats' responsibility for Bush radicalism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]must be said again. It isn't the Democrats, the Republicans or even Bush. Ultimately, it is us.
We don't demand news, we contentedly watch Paris Hilton reports. We don't demand transparency from our elected officials - we treat government like a sausage; we don't want to see how its made - and we are not participants in our patricipatory democracy.
We accept at face value the corporate newsfeed, and we talk not about the value of involvement in this country and in the world but about who will win Idol.
It's us alright. Shame on us.

Thanks, Glenn
[Read the article: The remaining GOP base -- the 30%'ers and the Broder/Ignatius pundit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Once again, Glenn's arrow seeks and finds a plump target. But who's listening? Not Americans, that's for sure.

Retirement
[Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am a huge fan, but has anyone else noticed how lame this stip is getting? I wish artists past their prime could see their work as we do......
