Original article: Edwards endorsing Obama

Too Late

This came far too late to mean anything whatsoever. A few months ago, it could've been a big boost to Obama, or perhaps a somewhat smaller boost to Clinton. But endorsing the presumptive nominee only after he's finally secured a general sense of being truly presumptive - and indeed some time after most pundits felt Obama's nomination was inevitable? It's a token endorsement, so expected as to hardly even qualify as news. A Democrat endorses the Democratic nominee for president? Yawn.

Backwards

I think you've got it completely backwards.

Very generally speaking: Men want women. Failing that, they want something as close as possible. Women, in contrast, are apparently satisfied with a vaguely penis-shaped object.

Which of these is more objectifying? Personally, I think Real Dolls and so forth are a great deal less creepy than your basic vibrator.

Where the Double-Standard Really Is

I find it amusing that multiple commentators have accused Broadsheet of having a double-standard with regards to Islam. Broadsheet routinely condemns sexist behavior in Muslim countries. The relevant hypocrisy exists, but it's on the other side: those people who roundly condemn Muslim cultures while promoting extremely similar religious nonsense at home.

Price Differentials

Price differentials will, of course, lead to increased smuggling. Already, U.S. citizens routinely cross the border to get cheaper pharmaceuticals in Mexico.

Ah, Democracy

The minister for equal opportunity is arguing against equal opportunity.

That sounds familiar - like pretty much every Bush appointee, really.

"Sexual Apocalypse"

The term "Sexual Apocalypse" needs a nickname; some sort of good contraction. Unfortunately, simple combinations like "sexocalypse" don't work very well. How about "Orgascalypse"?

Last Year

You act surprised, yet being "last year" is Microsoft's fundamental business strategy and has been for decades. Everything they make money at is something somebody else did first. They didn't invent windows. They didn't invent word processing, spreadsheets, or any other part of office. They didn't invent the web browser. It's hard to point at ANY major innovation Microsoft has come up with (instead of copying) aside from some clever feature bundling.

And why should they? Let other people take the risks, find out second hand what works, then dump incredible amounts of money in that general direction for 3+ years until they dominate the market. It's worked well for them so far.

My prediction: the next XBox will bear some startling resemblances to the Wii. :P

We're Out There

...so where are the articles bemoaning the plight of sad male singletons, huddled over pints with their buddies, ordering takeout in dingy apartments and haunted by generalized feelings of loneliness and despair?

They're all over the place, actually. Who do you think the audience for "pick-up artist" articles is, anyway?

Guilty As Charged

He committed dire crimes against the very Constitution of the United States of America. He bragged about them on public television. There's no possibility of innocence. There is no excuse to not impeach and remove this criminal from office.

Show a spine, Democrats. You guys can't even oppose the absolute least popular president since polling began? That's "too risky"? You're so scared of the risk of doing something that the risks of doing nothing doesn't even occur to you.

"Ooops, I was honest!"

Is it just me, or is he basically saying the things he regrets are the few things he said that he actually meant?

Secondary Issues

Isn't it just possible that those issues were secondary...

In a very close race, secondary and even tertiary issues can and do determine the victor.

Boredom

People can't actually be boring - they can only be boring to specific other individuals. Boredom between two people is caused by a lack of common interests. Basically, if you have nothing that you both would like to converse about or do together, yes, you're going to be bored.

...It's worth noting that pretty much anybody you find boring is highly likely to find you just as boring. (Unless you're cute enough.)

Saddening

No offense to you, Alex. I just think it's a sad day when a criminal proceeding which should be solely about verifying the accuracy of the articles of impeachment (trivial) is instead hijacked as a purely political calculation.

...And I'm not convinced it's even a correct one, at that. If the Democrats pushed the issue, what Republicans would dare to stand strong by Mr. Most-Hated-President-Ever-Recorded, anyway? Let 'em stand by Bush, then let them fall in the Fall.

Liars Lie?

From the article:

The study subjected 200 college students to personality tests designed to rank them in terms of the dark triad. They were also asked about their sexual relationships, including their attitude towards brief affairs.

Dr Jonason said those with the highest rating in terms of the dark triad tended to have more partners and a greater desire for short-term affairs.

So, basically, what they found was that confessed narcassistic liars brag more about their sexual exploits. I'm going to have to conclude that this study does not consitutute evidence of much of anything.

Additional Comments

Would you pick the "nice" dumpy girl or bitchy "hot" one?

I tend to go for gorgeous total sweethearts... Mostly without success because they are very highly sought after, in my experience.

On a related note, from what I've observed, jerks totally "out-nice" genuinely nice guys. It's really kind of disconcerting, but those men with all their braggadacio act like total "yes dear" sycophants when they're actually with their women.

Speculation

What you've described here is precisely the mentality driving speculation (buying under the belief that prices will go up). If you're right, then the force driving prices higher is, in fact, speculation itself, not a market fundamental and not some third option like your article makes it sound.

Typo Good

However, you mean, $140 dollars a barrel, not gallon, in your last sentence.

Maybe so, maybe not. ;)

Stay In the Vote

Obama doesn't even need to get any more conservative evangelical votes. If some of them are simply not excited enough about McCain to get out and vote - or enthusiastically support get-out-the-vote efforts - that could substantially help the Democrats.
