Because If you are for one gender you are against the other.
That doesn't make any sense at all. The only way it would make any sense is if there were some sort of zero sum game where treating women with respect meant treating men with disrespect. Certainly you could do that, but by no means is it any sort of necessity.
The Times essentially presuming the lacrosse players' guilt...
The article under debate called the evidence ambiguous. That does not constitute a presumption of guilt.
Birth control pills do not cause abortion, they prevent ovulation. NFP, however, does cause abortion - the egg in many cases still gets fertilized. I find that ironic. It's pretty clear that it's not abortion that's driving this behavior.
Due process of law, while certainly not perfect, is still generally a fair sight better than jumping to conclusions. I would rather see coverage of statistical trends than individual cases.
Definitely jealousy on the part of the needler, and a surprising amount of insecurity showing in the LW. I would recommend looking into verbal self-defense; there's practically a whole genre around that sort of thing, and a little research can give you suggestions that are both more in-depth and more specific than what Cary could offer here.
Personally, I would recommend the basic cold shoulder. Her petty behavior is not worth tolerating and not worth retaliation. That calls for simply ignoring it and her, at least until such time as she chooses to cut it out. Definitely turn down the carpool.
I'm frankly rather shocked at the attitudes I'm seeing here. Let's "help" the illegal immigrants - by denying them jobs? What the heck is wrong with you people? Of all the crazy stances I've read on this subject, this has to be the least connected to reality.
When I was in my senior year of high school I had a calculus teacher who was sent in from a nearby community college. She was in her mid-early twenties, just out of school herself, and not entirely aware of or compliant with our school's dress code. It was hard to pay attention to the curriculum, indeed.
Do any of you people stop to think for one second about the millions of people with HIV, like me, who might be reading this stuff...and not from our deathbeds?
Yes, but we like to think most of you aren't rapists. And if you are, well, you'll get no sympathy from this quarter, I'm afraid.
Search for "Carina Chocano" in the Salon search box and read some intelligent reviews that take the subject with an appropriate amount of seriousness without insulting the reader.
Any seriousness at all is way more seriousness than most TV deserves. I think HH hits it just right. And if you're insulted by Heather's commentary, you seriously need to check in with a psychologist because you have a major persecution issue.
Somehow it's now the airlines' fault that zealous Muslims have in the past used, and are apparently still trying to use, airplanes to murder as many people as possible in the name of Allah.
That's not the airlines fault and nobody claimed it was.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's not the airlines or the government or the Masons or the Methodists who are making your lives more difficult, expensive and physically dangerous every day.
Well, there certainly aren't any zealous Muslims making my life difficult, expensive, or physically dangerous. They can't be making stupid security decisions because they're not running the TSA or the U.S. government.
We do more damage to ourselves in their name than they've ever managed to do to us.
None of us are human...
...
Really? How interesting.
Wait a minute, where have we heard that before? "Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result?" Isn't that, ummm, the classic definition of INSANITY? Yeah, I believe it is... -- RichEmery
Actually, I think that's the classic definition of dating.
And yes, this is about women, since birth control for men (condoms) is available at any Walgreen's, 7-11, or gas station.
But are they covered by health insurance?
I think "Non-Cash Income" would also be a great band name.
An institution for higher learning with teaching and research facilities constituting a graduate school and professional schools that award master's degrees and doctorates and an undergraduate division that awards bachelor's degrees. - American Heritage Dictionary
Just sayin'.
I'm not a great looking guy. I'm not a bad looking guy. I'm kind of average, I guess. And I know for a fact I can land a woman if I drop my standards enough - I know this because that's exactly what happens when I drink too much. :P I drink very, very lightly now...
So, when people people make absolute statements that simply aren't true 100% of the time, it kind of clouds the issues involved.
"Radically more fundamentalist" is like saying femininely more masculine or pregressively more conservative. Radicalism is deviation from the center, whereas fundamental is movement towards the center.
Fundamental isn't "movement towards the center" at all. That's pure nonsense. Fundamental means of or relating to the foundation. While that could potentially be central, in most cases - and most definitely in this one - it's not.
If you are, as most Salon readers aparently are, ignorant about religion other than some random bad experience you had with a person and not God, then best to tend to matters you have knowledge of.
I'd be happy to leave the Christians alone if they'd leave everyone else alone. But they don't and never will, and by doctrine at that. "Live and let live" is not a one-way street.
