"WILL"

That cracked me up. Did they really put will in CAPS? In my experience, that always means "won't".

Perspective

I don't think anybody disputes that China's economy is considerably stronger now than it was a few decades ago. These people are a lot richer than they were then, and they not only know it, they generally remember it. Of course they're going to be happy with the direction their country is going in, even if only on the basis of the vector so far. "It's the economy, stupid," as the old refrain goes.

Racially Profiling Boyfriends?

Also, phaedraandemily is right to point out that Anne Murphy was given a bomb by her fiance who was, you guessed it, a Muslim extremist between the ages of 17-40. I know you used the example in reference to racial profilling, but it's not a very good one.

Umm, only if you're planning on racially profiling every passengers' romantic entanglements. Otherwise, it's an excellent example of the failure of racial profiling, since it demonstrates that such a "profilable" extremist can get through it by proxy!

I find it interesting that the examples say "Muslim extremist" rather than "Arab extremist". In a few cases they have to, because the people in question weren't Arabs - which, once again, demonstrates the uselessness of racial profiling.

Hi, I'm No One

Well, condom use is certainly to be preferred, but no one uses condoms all the time.

If you can't be bothered to wear a condom, having your foreskin removed isn't going to save you, I'm afraid. Condoms are pretty pointless if you don't use them all the time. Using them 90% of the time, for instance, you're still going to get sick and she's still going to get pregnant.

I've always wondered why so many men are so threatened by feminists. Now I totally get it! Yikes. There really are women out there who don't want men to enjoy life. Wouldn't it be more "feminist" to demand the right to reciprocation?

There is nothing - nothing - humiliating about oral sex. I can't even debunk the notion since there's no "there" there to debunk.

The gag reflex is a reflex, a biological response.

If you feel a particular need to be progressive about it, then just make sure women get equal opportunity to receive oral sex. That would probably be a better source of research and controversy.

Most women I've dated have had less of a sex drive than I do; one was vice-versa. Oral sex is a convenient way to cover the gap. And frankly, you can virtually always get more in other favors from the receiver than the time it takes.

Dear Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Oh, and I'm still single btw. My other blow job loving friend and I always joke that we'd offer our husbands blowjobs and a sandwich during half time yet men seem to marry the women who won't give head then bitch about it.

Will you marry me?

The Usage of "We"

"We only want more..." No, we can't want more because we haven't seen it. You saw it and are telling us about it, remember? "We can't get enough" Ditto. "We even suffer through..." Again. All in such a short space. "We've all heard Leonard Cohen's music described as depressive." I haven't. I've never heard that quote before. Stop speaking for me.

The word "we" does not necessarily include you.

Jargon Versus Definitions

Many people have fetishes, in fact, one could argue that in a very mild form, all people have fetishes...

That's because the "definition" you're using bears very little relation to the usage of the word fetish in common parlance. I strongly suggest you pick up a regular dictionary and look up the word.

I dislike that in the same way that people confuse the term overweight and obese. One is a specific medical condition the other is more a state of being.

Both terms have specific (albeit IMO useless) medical definitions and rather different common parlance meanings. As before, I suggest you spend some time with a dictionary.

Also, note that a major CDC study last year found no correlation between being overweight and a risk of early death.

This is because the medical definition of overweight doesn't correlate with actually weighing too much (sad, but true); the cut-off is low and it's based on the inappropriate height/weight ratio.

Ulterior Motive?

Irony

While all of your technical "knowledge" of the author's use of medical terms may be true, you've obviously missed the entire point of this article.

I wasn't responding to the article, I was responding to another letter-writer. I quoted him at length, so it should've been obvious. I'm amused that you can sit there accusing me of missing some other point while being totally oblivious to the point I was addressing.

As to the article, well, I wish I was attracted to fat women, there sure are a lot of them here and they seem to have trouble attracting mates.

Quick Note Regarding Water Purification

Of course, we are also imbibing these powerful chemicals in our drinking water, since most water purification systems are not designed to take them out and I believe something like 90% of these drugs are excreted from our bodies.

Pharmaceuticals in pill form must be hardy enough to survive our digestive system. Nonetheless, I understand that many are bound by activated charcoal, a common component of water filters.
