Packer

Is a ninny. He ragged on Kanas' play for the last few minutes of the first half. It's like, geez, they were up 40-12 why isn't the halftime score 63-16?

I'm Starting To Think

This Memphis Team and Tark's UNLV that beat Duke by 30 in the title game might be the all-timers......So much for the major conferences.

Hansbrough

Is a great college player but against Kansas he was in around the basket trying to draw charges. That's not gonna fly in the NBA......Plus those moving toward the basket from the front or sideways to the baseline, double-pump, one hand shots are not gonna work out for him.

A Radio Call In Fan Down Here

Called in and announced Earl Clark of Louisville having more NBA potential than Hansbrough. The host went nuts reciting their stats.

We Better

Start concentrating on getting Hillary to say yes as our VP or Obama has no chance. None.

It Wasn't Free Throws

It was field goals. Kansas outshot them 53-40..........Memphis scored one basket in about a 7 minute stretch from about the 16 1/2 minute mark of the first half down to about 9 1/2.....Then one more in the last 6 minutes plus of the first half. Then one more in a 5 minute stretch of the second half starting at a little over 18 minutes to go. Rose had one field goal in the first 28 minutes. The shot chart they displayed at one point had a big glob of gold circles (made field goals) right around the hoop for Kansas and Memphis almost none. And a double digit rebounding advantage for Kansas.

The Athleticism And Quickness

Was amazing. It seems if the ball was exposed for one instant, a hand was swiping at it and hitting it.

The hero is the guy that brought the ball up court leading to the tying three. He came up the middle then peeled off to the wing. He lost control of the ball with two of those quick as a cat Memphis arms right there. The ball in space between the two players. He reached out after losing it, regained possession, and fed Chalmers cutting by all in about one second.

The Problem With The Free Throw Deal

Is that only the loser can make excuses, or be blasted for a stat that "cost them the game". Kansas could say that they hit 1 three and shot 10 percent from three for the first 38 minutes. If 2 or 3 more of those go down then.....

Before The 1 for 5 At The End

Memphis was 11-14 or nearly 80 percent.

You Can't Single Out

The last 2 minutes or the 9th inning as a seperate entity, where a stat or play decided the game. The game has to be viewed in it's entirety and the glaring overall observation last night would be the difference regarding easier in the paint field goals for most of the game. The play around the basket.

1 of their last 10 field goal attempts regulation and OT.

Plus

A Memphis guy missed two free throws, they got the offensive rebound and were fouled again and made one of two....That's a total of one miss really.

KStone

The credit for the 9 point comeback in the last couple minutes goes to Kansas. They had to do a bunch of stuff themselves.

If You're Going To Rationally Choose

Between field goals or free throws being the difference in that game it was field goals.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008 08:35 AM

First Off

To just blame the loss on the free throws you'd have to have Kansas winning in regulation. At worst the missed free throws caused a tie. The the field goal problem raised it's ugly head again, for about the 4th long stretch of the game.

This Is Difficult I Know

You have a final score and a few missed free throws, so the simple definitive absolute linkage is made. If it's the last thing I do, I am going to drag the simplified American sportsmind kicking and screaming into deeper thought.

Plus

You have Douglas-Roberts with a big offensive first half, making up for Rose, or Memphis is really in trouble at the half. And not only that after the game Rush, who abused North Carolina with 25, was shaking his head at Douglas-Roberts defense on him.

Then the guy gets tossed in the sewer for missed free throws.

Stanford-Tenn Womens

You don't have to watch the game. Just check out the ESPN typed play by play in the morning. Specifically (nay, only) the free throw shooting in the last 2 minutes. That explains EVERYTHING.

How About

If a team gets out to a 9 point lead in the first couple minutes, then misses some free throws and all of a sudden it's 11-11. They do well in free throws the rest of the way, but lose in overtime. Was it the free throw shooting or whatever happened in the last couple minutes?
