Rush - the dimwitted goPORKER
[Read the article: Rush: Democrats proved wrong on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Limbaugh is such a deluded porker, the fat must have finally debased and eaten what was left of his brain. Of course the Dems haven't "been proven wrong" on Iraq!
Once the surge ends, and it MUST, all the insurgents will pour back in - in an encore 'whackamole' performance such as occurred a couple years ago in Anbar.
There is no way this country, with its economy in the crapper - the dollar plunging, and oil woes mounting - can continue to subsidize a massive, illegal occupation to the tune of $1 trillion every five years. Just ain't gonna happen.
The point that clearly eludes fatboy is that the one weapon the insurgents have, which we lack, is TIME. They merely have to wait our sorry asses out, whether that takes five years, or ten or more.
Eventually they will take back their nation, just like the Vietnamese took back theirs from the French and the Americans.
Foreign occupations never succeed in the face of nationalist fervor and patience.
It won't this time either, all Rush's rhetoric be damned.

A big waste of Money - call me old-fashioned
[Read the article: Amazon's Kindle won't spark your e-book fire]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sorry, to me it's like the i-pod, another over-hyped electronic gizmo, another huge waste of money. Don't want it and don't need it.
I have an extensive hardback (and softback) library - probably the biggest private collection in the place where I live. Most of the books (apart from my academic texts, that I have kept) set me back no more than $5.95 to $7.95 each. (I ordered them from Edward Hamilton at discount rates).
All top quality fare - like Noam Chomsky's 'On Language' and Stephen Hawking's 'The Universe in a Nutshell'.
Why should I set myself back some $400?
In addition, call me an old fart but I happen to like the feel and texture of paper and turning pages - not to mention th esmell of a new book, just opened for the first time. Best high of all.
I already have a laptop for e-mails and can get all the online news access I want for free.
Bezos' latest gizmo will merely be another over-inflated electronic boondoggle except for the electro-geek squad and those who always have to have the latest new toys.
Have fun, but count me out!

Not entirely a "fool's errand"
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's a fool's errand, trying to make sense of the senseless, of Taylor or Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams being shot to death
Not entirely! We know both these players had "homies" - with gang connections - there was no secret on that. As Deion Sanders noted the other night (on NFL Netrwork) every football player has to try to cut those connections - sooner if possible, but better later than never. As Deion noted "You don't want them home boys always in your home".
A problem is incepted when the NFL star man begins to lock out past homies and they tend to get disgruntled. "What happened to this man that he's all of a sudden disrespecting his main homies and getting too big for his breeches.."
As Deion observed, it's time the NFL get real and teach these young black stars, draft picks how to deal with past gang relationships, attached homies etc. and ....more to the point ....lose them.
Ray Lewis finally learned that harsh lesson, but only after nearly being turfed into the slammer for a number of years. It was only via the heroic efforts of Ravens' owner Art Modell that he avoided that fate - or worse. Michael Vick learned it too late, when the home boys pushed him into holding dog fights.
Bottom line - the gangsta-NFL starboy connections are still too much under the table, and not given enough light.
It is time the bright light of day was focussed onto them.

Get over....nothing!
[Read the article: Amazon's Kindle won't spark your e-book fire]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Bill Owen wrote:
Get over your bad archaic habits, and help save the environment. The kindle of the future will hold hundreds of thousands of books!
No frickin' way will I get over my "archaic habits" and get that stupid Kindle.
Not only do I immerse myself in the unique feel of books, I love the global ability to have two widely separated pages in view at once - and ALSO have five books opened at one and the same time. (Seomthing you cannot do unless you shell out for five Kindles)
Only yesterday, while comparing elements of string theory - I had open these books at the same time:
- Hawking's '*Universe in a Nutshell'
Penrose's ' 'The Road to Reality'
Haawking's and Penrose's 'The Nature of Space and Time'
David Deutsch's 'The Fabric of Reality'
Brian Greene's 'The Elegant Universe'
It was intense to process the authors' take simultaneously and see comparative diagrams as well.
There is NO freaking way the book is going to be extinct for this guy here anytime soon.
Sorry.

No law says everyone gets to watch
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The big difference between that game and this one is that just about everyone in the United States could watch that one from their living room couch
Well, as much as it would be nice for the US of A to become one big happy TV connected family on Thurs. night - there is no law or dictate that it must be so.
Besides, people CAN still see the game. They can go out to their nearest Sports bar and share in the thrill with dozens of like minded fans - instead of being insulated in their own little cocoons. There is way too much insularity already.
Over where I am all the Sports bars are putting on a lot of extra manpower to cope with the expected influx.
Hell, it will be great.
People need to stop pissing and moaning about the NFL Network and find the bright spot - the opportunity to go out and cheer with other fans.
