  • American Fascism

[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh was right]

American fascism has a "liberal" (or rather more appropriately, "leftist") element. American "liberals" are often just as intolerant of criticism and fearful of difference as their right-wing corollaries.

Fascist movements derive much of their power from fear. Americans, liberal and conservative alike, are these days driven by fear: fear of a bad economy, fear of immigrants, fear of terrorism, etc.

America is, now, without any doubt, a fascist country. You may wish to deny it (esp. if you are American), but with corporations writing laws, lawmakers protecting lawbreakers, cops killing without remorse or punishment, judges protecting killer cops and dirty politicians, and a voting public so apathetic they'd rather watch TV than be free -- heck, anybody with half a brain and one functioning eyeball can see it.

Fascism has no political preferences. Regardless of what ill-educated American liberals think, fascism comes in many flavors, none of this exclusive to Republicans or conservatives. Obama has already shown his fascist colors, endorsing illegal wiretaps, illegal detentions, and protection of government/corporate lawbreakers. I'm just waiting for his careful endorsement of some torture to complete the picture.

Until Americans, liberal and conservative, are able to face the world with courage rather than fear, fascism will continue to grow in this country. It will enjoy strong life under an Obama administration so terrified of criticism that the erstwhile "liberal" candidate has little trepidation about taking the classic view of satire historically embodied by tyrants and kings who could brook no humor or ridicule based on their carefully drawn image.

    Koppelman must be a chameleon.

    Schaller is certainly a bug.

  • Racists seldom recognize racism...

And they refuse to admit it when they do.

  • Whatever happened to...

[Read the article: Slipped through the cracks]

    ...feminism is about choices?

    ...privacy?

    ...mind your own business?

    Whatever happened to those ideas?

If a woman chooses to live in this manner, where is the wrong?

Why is there so much prejudice directed towards a woman who choose to go against what she perceives as the "mainstream?"

Why do women hate women who make difficult choices and then find happiness from them?

"Broadsheet feminism" is not much different from the philosophy of backwoods believers: if a Broadsheet feminist doesn't understand it, then it is treated with fear and ridicule.

It's tragic, really, that the common position of feminists these days amounts to insisting that some women be miserable and unhappy, just because they have a different idea of what "being a woman" means.

You've come a long way, baby!

  • Wow, Tim has a clone!

    An angry, arrogant, biased, Dean-hating, idea-free, ethically-challenged, fact-free, politically-naive, thoughtless clone!

Who knew stupid came in pairs?
