tilting at Big Media's windmill
[Read the article: "Great American Hypocrites: Toppling the Big Myths of Republican Politics"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I fear Glenn's noble fight against the MSM is getting more and more Quixotic by the day. The media tend to ignore any type of criticism; they still don't (nor do they care to) understand why so many people are getting their news from Jon Stewart, or why anyone thinks Stephen Colbert is funny, or that bloggers aren't some fringe element of wackos and extremists.
When they do bother to respond they show exactly how shallow and thin-skinned they can be -- see John King's petulant response to Glenn. It's only logical the MSM would be Bush's biggest war cheerleaders: after all, they both share the fatal traits of arrogance ("We're already perfect") and self-delusion ("We've always been perfect").
I know Glenn's not the only one fighting the good fight against a corrupt, complacent and frankly incompetent media. The real tragedy is that there's a need for fight in the first place.

yes indeed
[Read the article: "Ab Fab" ... in church!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You had me at "potato" and "Jesus". I'm taking Rebecca's excellent recommendation and running with it all the way to Netflix -- in fact, I wonder how many "Clatterford" rentals will spike because of this?

Stephanie Miller - not an AAR employee
[Read the article: Randi Rhodes calls Hillary Clinton a whore]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Stephanie Miller isn't an employee of Air America. She has her own her sydicated show. However, there are progressive radio stations around the country that broadcast her along with AAR programming. Coincidentally, Miller and Rhodes are good friends and have appeared on each other's shows, which likely adds to the confusion.
As to Randi's suspension: I usually agree with many of her talking points, but she's frequently become more strident the past few months as this campaign continues. That Randi was suspended is unsurprising; that she'll continue to work for AAR would be.

"Colbert's not funny, gosh darn it!"
[Read the article: Can Stephen Colbert save America?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]After reading this article I Googled a trip down memory lane, reading reviews of how 'disastrous' Colbert's performance was athe Correspondent's Dinner. (Snort.) It's almost axiomatic that if the Mainstream Media don't get it, the rest of us do. The worst of the rebukes had to be Ana Marie Cox's "Colbert's not funny, gosh darn it!".
You remember Ana Marie Cox, don't you? Helped found the late Suck.com? Threw nasty snark bombs to anyone in her line of fire as the wicked Wonkette? Has cool tattoos in full accordance with the Hipster's Code? Jessica Cutler's drinking buddy? Yeah, we all remember that wacky redhead. Surely she, of all those fossils in the audience, would get it. Right? Right??
From her May 04, 2006 article on Time.com:
"This insistence on the hilarity of Colbert's routine has a bullying quality, implying that jokes which adhere to the correct ideology are hilarious and failure to find humor in the party line is a kind of thought crime. By this logic, Cindy Sheehan should be hosting the Academy Awards."
Ahhh, Time. Founded by the ultra-right Luces, (the folks who named Hitler 'Man of the Year') and current home of the ever-sensible war cheerleader Joe Klein. Nice to finally be part of the MSM, eh, Ana? Guess all those mocking articles you once wrote can be chalked up to your reckless salad days, no?
The Colberts, Stewarts, Mahers et al won't save America, but it won't be due to lack of effort on their part. These people really do love this country; they love it so much, they want it to actually stand up to its ideals. And they actually get angry and disappointed when it doesn't, because that's what happens when something you love lets you down.
It's the Ana Marie Coxes of the world who couldn't give two shits.

Margaret Carlson
[Read the article: The U.S. establishment media in a nutshell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Margaret Carlson's the worst brand of pseudo liberal; i.e., the Pelosi Liberal. In other words, the kind meat-eating, gun-toting far right extremist nutjobs have successfully attacked for years. We all know the type: "Excuse me, please, if I may, but would it be all right if we brought back habeas corpus? I mean, only if that's okay with you."
Every time I see her with that schoolmarm hair bob and too-too-small glasses, I cringe. As a liberal who's fed up with us getting bashed even as we know we're damned well we're in the right, I resent her weakness greatly. "Do I dare speak up against the Obama bashing or join in the chorus? Gosh golly, whatever shall I do?" At least the wingnuts never waver; they're consistently insane.
Such a 'friend' like Margaret Carlson we do not need.

Boys are dumb and bad
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here we go again. A lot of us - male and female - aren't turned off of Hillary because of her chromosomes, but because her campaign has grown bitter, hypocritical and divisive. If it were Bill's campaign willing to destroy the party in order to win the nomination at all costs, I'd be just as angry. Oh, and by the way:
"I have seen that look and wondered if, in the minds of some of his adherents, the thing Barack Obama might be saving humanity from is Hillary Clinton."
Has it ever occured to you that just because Hillary is a viable candidate to be our first woman president doesn't mean she's the right candidate? Ms. Traister, this is a an article that follows a disturbing pattern of "boys are dumb and bad" that you've exhibited in your writings for years. You use the word misogyny so often it's almost like a drinking game. I'm starting to wonder why someone hasn't called you to the mat for a mild case of misandry.

how to market this
[Read the article: Whiz-bang commercial: Awesome or awful?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If this takes off, there'll be an army of giggling menfolk saying seven words to women they never thought possible: "Put the lid down when you're done!"
Now THAT'S marketing. :-)

The media will leap into inaction - again.
[Read the article: McCain confused about Petraeus' job, chain of command]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yet another gaffe - if it were Hillary or Obama, this would be pundit heaven. Too bad the MSM will dutifully ignore Grandpa McHothead's latest goof. Salon, Olbermann and the rest of blogosphere can only do so much to even out this disparity...
