Original article: The tracks of her tears

tears

We as democrats must be honest. Hillary threw a gender-driven pity party for herself in New Hampshire in a desperate attempt to hang on to her nomination chances. Doing so further diminished her general election chances. My high opinion of Senator Obama would disappear if he, when on the verge of elimination, blamed his racial background for his situation. I have always been for him as an individual, not as a useful vessel to achieve the worthy symbolic outcome of electing an african-american president. My impression is that Joan Walsh and many others have it the other way around.

Hillary's nomination would (in order of ascending importance), severely diminish the reputation of the the Clinton political enterprise, reduce drastically the Democratic Party's chances in the general election, and (if she somehow squeeks through) guarantee a much tougher time for the Democratic agenda in Congress.

Shaheen and Johnson

Robert Johnson in HRC's presence today criticized Obama in a veiled fashion as a drug user. He's already said that wasn't his intent. My ass. She's a dirtier campaigner than Karl Rove. And Obama doesn't take the bait beyond pointing out the factual inconsistency. Bless him.

maddening

This is not he said she said. It is she said.

Joan Walsh

This is all a one way street: HRC attacking Obama in as dirty a fashion as GW, coupled with a contorted attempt to drag him into the mud. How do you feel about her manipulation (and Robt. Johnson's, and Billy Shaheen's and Gloria Steinem's, etc.) now?

We need to imagine what a Dem convention will be like if she squeeks to the nomination this way. It will make 1980 look like 1932. After that, I would expect she'd be hard pressed to win what should be a slam dunk general election. If by some like-kind political effort she barely won the general election with her 48+% negative rating, she will not be able to govern - she will have the shortest congressional coattails imaginable. No independents, no young people, and general discouragement among the party's usual constituents.

robert johnson

Where is the Salon/Joan Walsh story about Robert Johnson and HRC? She meant this Sunday to be an uninterrupted series of Obama attacks with the hope that he would sink to her level. Something to slip by at the time she makes an unprecendented appearance on Meet The Press. P.S. What about Sidney Blumenthal last monday?

this was all Hillary

Pure and simple. Do not play the David Broder middle of the road attitude.

Where have you been?

I am sincerely sorry for the shooting of the father of a star player on your daughter's high school basketball team. It should be a national story.

In addition, please tell us your views about the Clinton's craziness over the last several days.

How can you have been so passionate about the HRC pity party in New Hampshire and not have a single comment about - where do I start? - Gloria Steinem, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Charlie Rangel,Bobcat Johnson, and Richard Cohen? An all-star attack posse that has made Karl Rove and Lee Atwater look like the Little Sisters of the Poor?

Please fast forward in your imagination to a convention nominating HRC, and walk us through how the democratic base will be energized because she is our choice rather than Obama, how independents will flock to us in the general election because she is our choice rather than Obama, and how the republicans will be demoralized because Senator Clinton is our choice rather than Obama.

Give me a woman or man (black or white) who is the best candidate, and let the symbolism of breaking through barriers handle itself.
