Too bad this administration doesn't believe in the Constitution.

Having said that, Spitzer walked right into the airplane propeller with his eyes wide open. He knew he was under a partisan microscope, but his Alpha-maleness overpowered his good sense. He gave them the bullets to use on him and had to go.

I want to know why the DOJ felt they had to devote their time to these wiretaps and Bin Laden is still running around the hills of Afghanistan - which is supposedly the real reason for "needing" them.

What's to "defend"?

I don't recall GG defending Larry Craig or Vitter.

They're still drawing a paycheck aren't they?

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 11:55 AM

Cardinal Richelieu

"I will find something in them to have him hanged."

Failing that there's always the Bible. They got Joan of Arc for wearing armor and Leviticus forbids women to wear men's clothes.

There's always an angle.

And it did not legalize Wall Street theft - Redux

Not to get all "tin foil hat" here, but the Wall Street firm that bore one of the largest brunts of Spitzer’s crusade there was Goldman Sachs, which ended paying hundreds of millions in fines and at least a couple of employees when to jail. The chairman of GS at that time was Henry Paulson, who is now Secretary of the Treasury - and, of course, Treasury has jurisdiction over the IRS, which is the agency that began this investigation in the first place.

Subtlety is not one of BushCo's strong points. With them things are ALWAYS what they seem.

it's obvious that your opinion of women is very low...

Climb down off the cross - we need the wood. How do you explain so many female concubine fantasies if they find "prostitution" so loathsome? Methinks you protest waaaay too much.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 01:22 PM

"I was talking from a viewpoint of compassion and empathy, "

Strange, because you sound more like a judgmental, hand wringing prude. And the amount of sweaty detail you put into your postings speak to your obsession with the subject. Next you'll be arguing for jail time for women who like spankings, anal sex, being held down having their hair pulled and the like.

How about a little less third-person twaddle and a little more fact? If any woman can come face to face with what she likes and then admit that she wants it, it's not your place to have an opinion about it.

"Staggering FOX cynicism"

Have they mentioned for the 1 billionth time that Elliot Spitzer spent an estimated $80,000?

Have they mentioned, at all, that their own Bill O 'Reilly paid $20 million dollars to get out of felony charges on sexual harassment of a much younger employee while using a vibrator on himself while his wife and two small children were in the house and he was in the shower?

Didn't think so....

"these are "business" people that control the prime pan handling real estate by force and recruit homeless people to work those corners."

Good Lord, that was the plot line for Bette Davis' role of "Apple Annie" in "Pocket Full of Miracles".

I'm just saying....

@thelastnamechosen

The whole story is kind of Runyonesque. Here's the synopsis.

Plus there's that catchy little song....

"When I think about her sad case and I think of Ex-Gov Spitzers' own daughters, "

Do you also realize that their private family life is none of your business? I do believe that that's the point Glenn has been making through these past several days.

Somehow people still manage to confuse moralizing with morals.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 07:37 PM

"do you think that women should be compelled to go into sex work"

Which part of "consenting adult" do you dipshits NOT understand. Not children. Not animals. Not sons or daughters. Not dead people. CONSENTING adults.

Geez. Your desperation to be right is making you pull the most idiotic brain farts out of your butts.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 07:52 PM

Oh really?

"explain away personal responsibilty based on unfortunate history is one of the easiest targets that conservatives can use to legitimatly discredit liberals."

Bzzzz. Wrong answer!! The repugs are just as weasley and two-faced. Especially when caught stealing everything that isn't nailed down. Not to mention that Vitter got a standing ovation for doing the same thing.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 08:43 PM

"desire to "protect" the fairer sex."

I don't know how to break this to a lot of people - but the "weaker/fairer" sex (or a subservient bottom) really is the one in control.

That's why a lot of men go to high priced Escort Services. They need a certain itch scratched and their wife would call a priest and a cop if she was asked to do it.

If McCain wins....

It's not going to be due to the popularity of the prospect of a third Bush term, it will be due to having Hillary-ites and Obamaniacs handing him all the propaganda and vitriol he needs to sink them as a viable candidate.

Thursday, March 13, 2008 10:24 AM

"due to having Hillary-ites and Obamaniacs handing him all the propaganda"

I should have added "in their eagerness to tear each other's candidate apart"...

And you're right - waivering all over the place on the war is one of the issues.

Thursday, March 13, 2008 04:48 PM

Now the telecoms are "patriotic"....

Unless Uncle Sam doesn't pay the bill on time. Then they'll yank the lines.

Go figure.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 12:14 PM

So Obama is now supposed to be

1. A Muslim who hates America

and also

2. A Christian who hates America.

How he do dat?

Wingnuts have absolutely no logical filtering abilities between what pops into their heads and flies out of their mouths.

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 04:09 PM

McCain claims the "facts" speak for themselves.

So he obviously feels it's ok to ignore them.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 11:24 AM
Original article: Lessons not learned

("I didn't realize how incompetent the Bush administration could be"

Oh, c'mon. Anyone who didn't see this coming when the chatter suddenly veered from how we have to capture OBL to how we have to invade Iraq for no logical reason is too stupid to remember to breath.

Thursday, March 27, 2008 03:35 PM

If you listen to John McCain...

This isn't war, it's just a very noisy peace.

The war is over, people are dancing in the streets and practically farting rainbows. Too bad they interrupted his speech to report on the growing violence in Iraq.

Friday, April 4, 2008 10:24 AM

I'm beginning to doubt

that any "tearing up" was really involved. It was obviously the the lie sticking in his throat that caused him to choke on his words.

Friday, April 4, 2008 01:50 PM

Prepare to live with less protection.,,,

Bull. And if I might add, shit. The only people the wingnutz and Bushivics are interested in "protecting" are the phone companies, and covering their own sorry asses. We ARE a nation of laws, just like any other civilized country. The minute you start chipping away at them to single out one person, you change them so they can be used against everyone. If you find that "tiresome" then you should find a place where you wouldn't mind being kept on a short leash by the government. The only place that comes to mind is China, at the moment, but I'm sure there are others.
