[Read the article: Is Obama playing the race card?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I respectfully disagree that Obama is trashing the Clintons using race. I just don't see it that way. Of course, neither do I think he is pure and color blind. He is a smart politician who is taking the comfortable ride the media is giving him as far as it will go. Sen. Clinton would do the same, and did back in her front runner days.

I think the media is spoiling for an ugly racial fight, and makes a huge deal out of any remark. To me the only remark I can recall that crossed the line was the "Jesse Jackson won here too" comment from Bill, which backfired on him anyway.

Given the incendiary nature of racial issues, I think the candidates are doing a decent job in a campaign of firsts. The media, on the other hand, has been embarassing itself on a daily basis.

Bill Donahue is an embarassment to Catholicism who loves to hear himself talk -- on TV. He hooks up with these preachers when it serves his purposes. Glad to see him reaping what he has sown. Even gladder to see the GOP reaping what it has sown.

  • Disgusting.

Just absolutely, totally disgusting. Not to mention humiliating.

  • What's wrong with having a choice?

I don't think public schools should offer only single sex education, but if it is affordable I don't see why it can't be an option for parents to choose or not.

As a product of single-sex education, and parent of boys in a boys' school, I think it can be a great experience. Call me Victorian if you want, but there is a certain freedom -- for both sexes -- when you aren't worrying about what the opposite sex thinks of you during the day. My sons' school has a lot of male teachers, and clearly it is perfectly acceptable to be a boy, think like a boy, act like a boy, joke like a boy...

It's not for everyone, and it is one, not the only, path to success. I would not claim that it is the best way, but it is a legitimate way that, as the NYT article shows, some people would like to have available to them and their kids.

(P.S. - I read the article and IMHO it is quite skeptical of the supposed "science" behind the guy's educational theories, which sound like a lot of baloney. The story refers to a number of critics who point out cherry picked research, ec.)

if segregation benefits girls, then boys should be forced to go along with it, even if it adversely affects them.

likewise if segregation hurts girls, boys should be forced to go along with it, even if it adversely affects them.

It is all about the girls, even at the expense of the boys.

No one should be forced into single sex education. I don't see anyone here arguing for that.

And you say it's all about the girls, but if you read the NYT article you see that a lot of it is all about the boys.

  • Not shame but responsibility

[Read the article: Single mothers are ruining society!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think that we need to bring shame into it. Introducing responsible decision making, however, might not be a bad idea. It never fails to astonish me that two people who don't feel "ready" to make a marriage commitment blithely go ahead and create a child, which is the most binding commitment two people make, at least for 18 years, like it or not. Using your brain and some birth control does not have to involve shaming anyone.

Ask the son when he comes back if he wants you to help him replant. If he says yes, help. If he says no, let it go.

Never admire the obnoxious snob across the street who trespassed. Plant your own psycholgical oleanders across her front yard.

  • Oh sure...

Take the nomination from the black guy and the woman, who both soundly beat all the other opponents in the primary, and hand it to a white guy who didn't even run. That's a formula for party unity!

I don't know who she is or when her show is on, but this clip seems to be from a stand up comedy routine, not her radio show, and not from a campaign. Why should she be suspended for this? I would think it would come under the heading of free speech. I find it unfunny and moronic, and another sad case of women being their own worst enemies, but she certainly has a right to be a moron, at least in her free time.

Imus was slandering people on the air on his show as a representative of NBC. If he had been in a comedy club it would have been different. Rude and offensive, but different. If she had been on the air at Air America, it would be different. But if comedy clubs are now going to be forced to be politically correct and sensitive, they will go out of business.
