David Chase hates SUV's

Did anyone else notice this is the second time Tony has rolled in an SUV? The first time he was driving with Christopher's girlfriend, and swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Once again, we see him in an accident avoidance maneuver, and the SUV goes rolling like a log. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think David Chase is making a subtle statement about the inherrent instability of SUV's.

It's Just a Bad Idea

In order to accomplish a "double impeachment", our government would essentially be shut-down for the duration of two impeachment trials. Assumming a double conviction, consider the turmoil and time required for the executive branch to switch from Republican to Democrat.

However disfunction our government is now, we still have opportunities for cooperation and progress (imigration reform, for instance). Once congress begins contemplating a double impeachment, does anyone believe that anything useful could be accomplished until the next term begins (if even then)?

The presidential compaign would become fixed on a single-issue: the impeachments - right or wrong?. All other issues would be after-thoughts, and would have little bearing on how anyone votes. I have to wonder how that will affect who we choose as our next president.

Bush and Cheney become more marginalized each day. In a way, impeaching them now would give them more power over our future than they would otherwise hold. I hate to say this, but we're just going to have to run out the clock on this adminstration.

Maybe you're looking at this wrong...

If you take this drug, then you either eat less fats or you poop yourself in public. If that's not a good incentive for adopting a better diet, what is?

Make Up Your Mind

King,

in the past I've seen you blast traditional powerhouse teams for scheduling "cupcakes". Yet here you are today, lamenting Hawaii's exclusion from the title game, when essentially their schedule was about as "cupcake" as it gets. That is SO inconsistent of you.

As for Hawaii, they are very fortunate to find themselves in the Sugar Bowl. My personal opinion is that the Georgia bulldogs are going to rip them into tiny pieces, and that there are at least five other teams left out of BCS tournaments who would have done the same. Hawaii now has a great opportunity to prove all the skeptics like myself wrong, and make their bones in big time football. That's the most they should expect for their season, and they should be happy with it.

Re: Tim Howe / Officiating and Home Field Advantages

In watching last night's game, I didn't see any obvious, game-altering blown calls. Maybe there were situations where a call could have been made, but wasn't. But for any missed call that you feel might have helped LSU, I think I could match it with a missed holding call that benefited OSU and their lumbering offensive line.

As for the supposed "home field advantage", LSU and OSU fans received the same number of tickets for the game. While I'm sure the streets of New Orleans were filthy with LSU fans, once the game moved inside the dome, everything became equal.

No one has ever prevented the business interests of Illinois and Ohio from creating/sponsoring a major, big-time bowl. However, what they understand (and you don't) is that big-time bowls cost a whole lot of money, and they have to pay for themselves. This is done by getting fans to travel to the host city to spend their vacation time and $$$. If the weather is going to be cold and sucky, too many fans are going to stay home. Even if they're Big 10 fans.

Just a Feeder System?

King,

with all due respect, if you feel that college football is just a feeder system for the NFL, then you've been going to to the wrong games. The NFL may be oozing with talent and quality, professional performance, but it does not exceed (or even match) the kind of excitement that eminates from many college stadiums on a typical Saturday game-day.

As for Mr. tweatherred, I have to say this:

Georgia didn't win their conference! They didn't even win their conference division! At least in the SEC, what you do during the season matters, and Georgia did not get it done! It doesn't matter that Georgia beat a team who went undefeated. Hawaii had one of the weakest schedules of 2007. Most other teams in the SEC would have beat them too! As an SEC fan, I am truly grieved by all the petulant whining coming from Georgia fans this year. It so diminishes their team.

Watching the Debates

I think it would be nice if Salon, Slate, NYT, WP, whoever, would post on their front pages something simple like, "Democrats Debate, 7PM EST tonight, on CNN". Something we'll notice, something that let's us know when a debate is scheduled, before it's already over. Not that I don't appreciate Joan's insightful commentary, but I'd really like to see the debates for myself. I'm sure there are places that do make these announcements, but they aren't the news sites that I check everyday. Anyway, it would be nice.

Sorry, No "Do-Overs"

To everybody thiniking about "do-overs" in Michigan and Florida, I just want to point-out that state-wide elections cost a lot of money. Not to mention requiring lots of time and energy from folks who probably wouldn't be available to plan and carry-out the process. Forget the idea of a do-over.

And one more thing: I'm a Democrat. But if my state's delegates were disenfranchised at the convention, I would most certainly vote Republican (unless it's Huckaby. I couldn't do that for anything). The DNC better think VERY HARD about the ultimate effect of their decisions.
