Article deserved a second look

I don't even know why I read the article, because my first thought was, who cares what that man said in the early 1970s. It was over 30 years ago, he was a kid, it was a different time. Lots of people act reprehensibly when younger and turn out to be halfway decent people later in life. Think of Malcolm X, who went from burgler to civil rights leader. But there isn't much else to read on Salon today, so I gave it a look. Glad I did.

The key here, which is only mentioned offhandedly, is that Allen maintains today he never harbored negative feelings / thoughts towards people of other races. These three former team mates of his establish that he did (even conceding he may have out grown them) and that he is lying today. So either he hasn't changed (which I believe is the case given his macaca indcident as well as getting upset about being "tarred" a Jew--oh no!) or he is ashamed of his former behavior (which he should be). His current bahavior doesn't speak well of him.

Original article: You have no right to vote

Doesn't Fix a Problem That Isn't There

First, if more legitimate voters are prevented from voting than fraudulent voters are, then the democratic process is harmed.

BUT!

How hard is it to get a fake ID? Not very, so these laws won't stop the people it's intended to stop, but will stop those who should be able to vote. In other words, it's lose - lose, except for the GOP.

Does Organic Food Make a Difference?

I regularly buy organic eggs and organic milk. I have often kept both in my fridge for over a month when life got hectic, and they were still good, no odor, safe to eat later. When money was running tight, I substituted non-organic eggs and milk. Aside from a noticable quality difference, both spoiled very quickly.

From a nutrition standpoint, there is no difference, but that's not the only factor. Spoilage, taste, quality, lack of industrial chemicals, etc.

As for the current bagged spinach problem a previous letter writer mentions, it is only non-organic bagged spinach that is contaminated. According to the companies involved, the organic spinach is uncontaminated.

Are there health risks assciated with oragnic produce? Of course. It's food. But the single most dangerous food in America is non-organic poultry. Anything that requires you to bleach your kitchen after preparing it is seriously sick.

Palestinians

It's worth mentioning that while most Palestinians are Muslims, not all of them are. A large number are Christians, and there are other faiths present as well. They are oppressed equally by the Israelis. The problem isn't that they are violent. The problem is they exist on land and water that the Israelis want. Palestinian violent resistence merely gives the Israelis a fig leaf for their apartheid-style colonialism, which has continued unabated during periods when Palestinians weren't resisting violently (and contrary to popular American and Israeli opinion, there have been such periods, even lasting years).

There Israelis certainly have a right to be free from terrorism, but since they are creating the conditions that cause people to want to committ terrorist acts against them in the first place, they might try fixing that first.

2006 or Bust!

Looking to 2008 and leting the Dem's los would be a serious disservice to the Republic. Not that I actually expect them to do anything more than betray their base, a Dem vicotry in both houses opens up the possibility (however unrealistically) that Congress will hold the Administration to account for breaking the law.

The Presisdent and Vice President, as well as Scalia and Thomas need to be removed from office. The former for their various crimes, and the latter two for violating federal law when they did not abstain from Gore v. Bush (both had immediate family members with financial interests involved in the case). Waiting to 2008 lets those crimes against the American people go unanswered.

Save the Jews?

No one argues that WWII was to save the Jews. That was just a happy result.

How to handle it

Student loans are interest free as long as the student is in college, for six months after school is over, and during periods of deferment (unemployment, working for a school, etc). If the younger son really wants to do this, tell him to save his money until his older brother is out of school and the younger son is old enough to make his own financial decisions. When the younger son is an adult, he'll be in a much better position to make that decision.

Boycott ABC

The "Liberul" Media consistently blows off criticism from the left, even from the barely-left that passes for an opposition in this country. Are there consequences for such things? You can look up a list of their sponsors and let them know that you intend to cease using their products as long as they advertise on ABC. Begin efforts to have ABC and its affiliates licenses pulled. It probably won't happen, but it will at the very least annoy them, and perhaps put the fear of God into them. File complaints with the FEC. Do SOMETHING!

LOL!

If you're going to post "evidence" supporting your "theory," please use something not so easily refuted.

We agree on nothing

I've seen your so-called evidence, and not a whit of it stands up to examination. Hell, you conspiracy theorists can't even agree with each other. The only thing I fault the 9/11 Commission for is not detailing enough how far up the chain of command the SNAFU went.
